Why is this a doubled die struck coin?

    Tey might be tilted hub doubling (Or they might be die chips), but they are SO minute that as far as I am concerned they are grasping a straws. The die markers do tell the different dies apart, but the DDR's are pretty much worthless.

    Wexler lists everything. He's made the determination that this is a Class VIII and has chosen to list it. It's minor indeed, but to each his own. This goes back to the fact that the vast majority of collectors out there could care less about the vast majority of varieties that are listed in the Wexler/Coneca/Coppercoins files.

    So is it actually a doubled die struck coin? I can't imagine where the part came from. I'd say chip or gouge.

    from reading some of your posts I believe you may not know what a doubled die coin is and how they become a doubled die. here is a link from the link in your first post. this article by Wexler may be able to explain what a doubled die is and how they get on the working coin die.
