When I click on a thread, it always displays the oldest post in it. Is there a way to have it display the most recent post instead? I have poked around the site a bit and have not found any preference setting to adjust this. Thanks for any advice.
One thing you can do is this: In a list of threads, move the cursor across a topic, and you'll see additional elements such as parts of the initial post (above the topic line). However, the number of pages will also be displayed - see here for example: As far as I can tell, the default number of replies per page is 20, so if you see a number of replies which is higher than that, there should be more than one page. In the example above you could click on the "12" to go to page 12. Maybe there are more ways to accomplish this, but I'm still poking and discovering myself. Christian
When you open a section such as Coin Chat, US Coins, or any other, scroll to bottom of the page. At the bottom, in the center, you'll see a link that says - Thread Display Options. Click on that and set the display as you see fit. For example, selecting - Last Message Time - and - Descending Order - as your options will automatically bring you to the first unread post in the thread. And subsequent posts will be below that.
Sorry Doug, but that sets the order of the threads in that (and other) sections. However, the POSTS are still in ascending order. I have yet to find a way to display the posts in a thread in descending order.
I don't really disagree with you, but doing what I suggested does exactly what I said it does. If you select those settings, the next time you click on a thread what will appear on your screen is the first post in that thread that you have not read. And all posts that came after that one will be below it. With the old software if you selected Descending order then the most recent post (newest post) made in a thread always appeared at the top of your screen and you had to scroll down to find the last post you read during your last visit, or click on the First Unread box. With this software, the software itself automatically does the work for you and automatically takes you to your first unread post. So yeah, it's different than it used to be, but it's better, faster, easier, in my opinion. In the old days the vbulletin software worked the same way. But as updates came & went it failed to do that any longer. I for one am quite happy to have it back.
I am not seeing the Thread Display Option you describe, at least not in Firefox. What browser are you using?
You won't see it if you are actually in a thread. Go to a menu of threads like Coin Chat or US Coins and look at the bottom in the center. It is a bit tough to see.
