I just received this 1862 $10 Legal Tender note. but I have a question: can some one Please tell me the total PCGS population for the Fr.93c. ??? I have an account with PMG and the PMG total population for the Fr.93c is (5) 1 - VG 8 2 - VG 10 1 - F 15 1 - VF 20 I don't have an account with PCGS. Can someone please give me the total population report from PCGS ? for the Fr.93c only. and please break it down with the grades ? thank you.
Not sure if it helps, but T&P shows 2 10's and 1 30 from PCGS. I've noticed alot of those notes tend to get misassigned FR numbers due to the odd way the FR designations are, not sure how that might impact the population. I very much like that note, it's on my get list (I have the 1, 2, and 5) but is priced beyond where I compete. Yours is a nice example to be sure...
I'm gonna have to settle for a lower one! One of my biggest eBay aggravations EVER was I was cruising the new BiN listings and found a FR 93 of some variety, low grade but okay and priced at I believe $325 BiN but it did have a lower starting price. I spent a minute making sure the seller was kosher and the note was well priced, and it was, and went to buy it and someone sabotaged it with I believe a $250 starting bid. The real b!+ch of it? It ended up selling for more than the BiN and the guy who sabotaged it didn't win it. I missed the BiN by like 30 seconds. Dammit dammit dammit! I have a new question so I figured I would use this old thread. what would make this note a FR 93c or prevent it from being a 93c ? (referring to the note posted above) Im having a hard time finding any info on the 93c. my Friedberg third edition does not mention the 93c. it only mentions that fr 93 seal is centered right with starburst center bottom fr 93a seal upper right no starburst fr 93b seal center right no starburst. so what is the difference between a fr.93 and a fr.93c ? if any one can help I would appreciate it.
There are two types of Treasure seals - Type 1 and 2. Some holders will denote this "Ty. 1 Seal" for example. You can compare notes and get populations for various grades (where available) from both PMG and PCGS Currency without being a member of either TPG on the Heritage Auctions website (HA.com). Just look up the notes either in the current or upcoming currency auctions or those in the Auction Archives, select the grades you want populations for then read the lots description where grades are shown. HA accounts are free to set up and you can check what notes have sold for, plus see online or download excellent high resolution scans.
I noticed that Fr. 93 has the series number above the word "Series" while Fr. 93c has the series number to the right of the word "Series." Other than that, they appear to be similar.
There are a bunch of different minor varieties in the 1862 $10's, and it's only in the most recent editions that they've all been given separate numbers.... All notes in Series 1 through Series 25 have the series number to the right of the word "Series", and all have the original seal with the solid-color background behind the shield. But there are five varieties of these notes. The 93c is the common/typical/"normal" variety printed in Series 1 through Series 25. It has the seal at center right, and it has a starburst at the bottom center. The scarcer varieties are: * 93a is the only variety that has the seal at upper right rather than center right. (It also has no starburst.) These are found only in Series 1, and were the first 70,000 or so notes printed. * 93b has no starburst but is otherwise like 93c. (The starburst is missing because these notes were printed from leftover old 1861 Demand Note plates that had been modified for the 1862 series.) These are found in Series 1 through 9. * 93e is just like 93b but with the "30 June 1857" patent date omitted in error. These are found in Series 5 through 7. * 93f is just like 93c but with the "30 June 1857" patent date omitted in error. These have only been seen in Series 5. Then beginning with Series 26, the series number was moved *above* the word "Series". That's variety 93d, which covers all of Series 26 and 27 and part of Series 28. Then the Treasury seal was modified partway through Series 28; the new version has a spoked background behind the shield rather than solid. That's variety 93-plain, which runs from the middle of Series 28 all the way through Series 63. Then the back design was modified with a reworded obligation. That's variety 94, which comes as New Series 1 through New Series 14. Got all that?
