I think you are correct in that it was either polished away or was the result of a struck-through. Unfortunately, it is only the 1969-D that carries the premium. Keep up the hunt!
Do a search for completed ebay listings, similar threads on here, or buy a Cherrypicker's guide. The internet is your oyster. :smile
that's actually kind of funny considering I used to work in the liquor manufacturing industry and knew at least a dozen people that made their livings that way, they all drove Continentals, apparently business was good.....
Yes, some stereotypes really do seem to hold true... I remember when I was engaged to a 1/2 sicilian girl I attended my first wedding, didn't know more than 4 people there but everyone I met knew all about me. She had a great uncle that was in prison in sicily for "being involved" and another that owned a tuxedo shop in New York. Found out at that wedding at those deals the bride walks away from the dollar dance with enough to buy a house by the beach!
I sold a PCGS MS64 1969-D "no FG" variety for $800 on Teletrade, and another MS65 for $900. That was the fall of last year, and the premiums for these have really been dropping since then. I also come across 1970, '71 & '72 Cents quite often that are also missing the FG. I've sold those on Ebay for a few bucks, but all of my examples were uncirculated.
I checked ebay, it really would have to be an uncirculated coin for these. I dont see something less than a high MS slabbed going for much. I havn't checked on the prices for the full step nickels lately are people still going bonkers for them?
Also keep in mind, as Simon pointed out, the only one that carries a decent premium is the 1969-D and that is because it's listed in the Cherry Picker's Guide. For that same reason, it's also the only one that the TPGs will slab as such.
