... or how about this one - the British Protectorate of Zanzibar from about 1881, now part of Tanzania. Also, by the way, the location of the shortest ever war!
Even while I have been watching and posting to this thread, in the last hour, I have completed a deal to acquire some more British coins - I have to take the opportunity to show them off (and yes gloat a little! ) A Victorian Gothic Crown from 1847, undecimo edge. (I now have two and will have to decide which one to move on!) An 1819 George III Crown An 1834 William IV Halfcrown. By the way, I would appreciate any thoughts on grading for these three.
1926 Australia One Half Penny 25,55mm; 5.6gm; smooth edge. Crummy focus on the obverse...sorry. Both sides are the color and luster shown on the reverse.
1845 East India Company One Cent ~28.65mm; 8.9gm; smooth edge. Her Majesty as a young woman...refreshingly slender! Pretty worn coin, but legible. Anybody know: Why EAST India Company? Was there no development, activity, commerce on the other coast? Nothing to plunder? No populace to subjugate?
Nothing to do with the Coast of India - in fact the East India Company was active right across India and further afield too - The Straits Settlements in modern Malaysia were also theirs. The term actually comes from the original belief that "The Indies" covered a huge area all the way from modern India to the East coast of the modern USA! Hence the East Indies were the parts of that area you got to by going East, and the West Indies (which we would now think of as the Caribbean islands) were those you reached by going West. It is also why the early colonists to North America referred to the indigenous tribes as Indians.
