1864 New Brunswick One Cent ~25.45mm; 5.6gm; smooth edge. Just got this today, along with about twenty other 19th C British Empire coppers, etc. It's about as dirty as anything I've ever had...and it's headed to a Distilled Water soak PDQ. It'll look better (to most of you) when next it appears here.
1870 Newfoundland Half XF45 PCGS This is the first-year Newfoundland fifty cent issue with the Victoria obverse (speaking of which, everybody owes it to themselves to watch the old 1970s Billy Wilder production of "the Private Life of Sherlock Holmes." There is a great scene in there with the tiny actress playing Victoria and a "submersible" [submarine]. It's a great movie, watched it on Netflix the other night.) I know I posted this one but it is next in date order and goes along nicely with the 1870 LCW from Canada. Man these Newfie coins are underrated, given their low mintages and low prices. If these were U.S. coins, a lot of them would be 10x higher! Don't misunderstand me, this coin wasn't cheap, I traded, ahem, several hundred dollars' worth of U.S. coins for it. But it's a lot of coin for the grade, IMHO. Haxby lists this at $895, CCN Trends at $1400, and CoinsandCanada.com at $1350. Enjoy! Best Regards, :hail: George 1870 Newfoundland Half XF45 PCGS
Another beautiful coin George, I really like the Newfoundland half dollar, but for me they are a bit over my budget....Alan
It seems I am on a roll this week, I found this beauty yesterday, and it has a mintage of only 200,000. I am not sure if that makes it a key date or not. It seems all these coins have a low mintage, but this is the smallest mintage I have found so far. I am still reading up on them and I am very happy with this coin. Alan
In the lower grades, the 1880 Oval 0 along with 1885 and 1888 are the keys. Nice-looking, no-problem coin though! Congrats Alan and thanks for sharing! Best Regards, :hail: George
Gorgeous lookin' jello-quarter!! ... ummm, is the colour in that photo accurate? (it is very attractive => cool hue) :high5:
50c Canada 1898 VF35 NGC Well there are still lots of big holes in my Canadian (and Newfoundland) Victoria halves, since I just bounced from 1870 (two) to 1898. But I suspect I am not alone! Like I say, something to strive for. The 1898 Canada half dollar saw a mingy mintage of 100,000 pieces, even though that was nearly four times the previous issue, the 1894 at 29,000 coins! This Choice VF piece displays nice original surfaces, a coin that clearly has not been fooled with. Haxby prices this at $670, CCN Trends at $1,030, CoinsandCanada.com also at $1,030. Enjoy! Best Regards, :hail: George 50c Canada 1898 VF35 NGC
I have seen these discontinued Canadian Pennies from the Royal Canadian Mint. going for over $10.00 a roll I don't know how but I won these two rolls for the opening bid of only 99 cents. You can't buy a single Penney for under $1.00 each. They are getting harder to find and I was shocked when I found out I won them for that price, but I am happy LOL. Alan
here is some awesome old Canadiana History ... ummmm, sure they're not coins, but they sure are cool!! => I re-stumbled across these old Mounty ads ... man, I'd love to track-down and snag one of the originals, eh?
Awwww jello, that's too bad ... man, that was one sweet lookin' quarter!! => oh well, you'll get 'em next time!!
