silver eagle with no date with the morgan dollar eagle obverse

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by 90percentproof, Jun 22, 2013.

  1. I have a silver eagle coin with no date and the obverse has the eagle of the Morgan dollar. The obverse is exactly like the Morgan dollar except of the word .999 fine on the top of the eagle's head. I guess its not a silver eagle, but to be more specific its got a walking liberty reverse with no date and a Morgan obverse . It has met all the test to be authentic pure silver . Does anybody have a idea????

The SAE has an obverse depicting the Walking Liberty similar to a half dollar, and the Morgan obverse depicts Lady Liberty. It sounds to me that what you are describing is an ordinary silver round.

  4. If it was normal ,where is the date ? I have never seen one with a Morgan eagle on the obverse.

That is normal for a generic round.

I didn't say it was normal. You did.

It is not a Morgan, and it is not an SAE.

  8. . The term ordinary silver round does sound like the term normal round , so this is not normal ? I just want to to know if this is possible to have such design.

It's just a silver round. Anything is possible with the designs. It's not made by the US mint and is worth only the silver value.

The design is nothing more than a novelty and an attempt to make silver more attractive to certain buyers.

As for wanting to know if it is possible to have such a design, just take a look at the one you have; should be all the proof you need.

There are literally thousands of different designs used on silver rounds. Some have dates, some don't. I knew a collector in the Louisville Coin Club years ago who had over 10,000 different designs.
