I collect bicentennial quarters. They are still fairly common as I find one every 3 or 4 rolls on average. I know they're only worth 25 cents but I like the design and since they are common I get the "I found one!" rush more often. The bicentennials aren't in the permanent collection and I will spend them if I need to, but I hope that I don't have to.

I collect all coins received in change dated 2009 or later. They accumulate in an old glass baby food jar and it is not even half full after four years.

I like the Bicentennial quarters too, but I don't save all of them. At disney world a couple months ago, I got three in change. So much for going into the penny presser

I also stick back SBAs. I find maybe one a week on average. Question about the SBA: Were all of the coins in circulation dated 1979?

  6. SBA's were only made for four years: 1979-1981, and then in 1999. 1979 was by far the highest mintage year - over 10 times the amount minted in 1980 or 1999. In 1981, SBA's were only minted for sale in mint sets, so you would find very few of them in circulation.

All I've ever found are 79's and 99's. But mostly 79's.

  7. Also, I collect all US coins, from the very beginning up to the present day. My newest coins are the 2013 cents and a few White Mountain quarters I found in my change. My oldest (at the moment) is an 1853 seated dime. I collect even the most common, boring coins, like 80's and 90's clad coinage. Why? I'm a completist - if I'm going to collect coins, I want to collect them all!

Back when my father was still alive, he was collecting state quarters, he had tons of them, one day he told me that he preferred if I did not save them for him anymore, but he still wanted any bicentennial quarters. If I ran into one I made sure to stop over and give it to him, and have a beer with him.

When he passed on he had about 4 rolls of the bicentennial quarters, I still save them, when I visit his grave I bring a bicentennial quarter and leave it for him.

And that memory is worth approx. $1,000,000.00 or maybe more.

For many years I have chucked all state quarters in a can. Recently going through them, I still can't complete a set. Others I haven't done but which might be fun are the Lincoln Life series or the Jeffersons.

I save all coins collected in circulation. I almost never receive change since I do most shopping electronically, by ATM, of by credit card. I have several bins that I store copper cents, zinc cents, nickels, dimes, washington quarters, state & ATB quarters, and dollar coins.

Jefferson nickels and pre-82 pennies, then anything that comes around that I think looks cool.
