Heres a neat little piece that come across my desk this afternoon. Durotriges of S.W. Britain Mid 1st Century AD/BC Stater Obverse: Devolved Apollo Head Reverse: Disjointed Horse Left, Pellet Below
I don't see either Apollo or a horse, but that doesn't mean their not there. It just means I have no imagination.
Interesting coin, I believe these coins are described as Billon. Base silver. Very neat coin, a piece that should be welcome in any ancient coin collection. I have only one Celtic coin, and its of the Amoricans...I was lucky enough to get one in pretty high grade too. . Nice Coin Dutchman.
The Apollo head and the horse are by this point so devolved that the design is maybe better described as a pattern of dots. If you arrange the various Celtic imitations of the gold staters of Philip II of Macedon, which this coin is ultimately derived from, you can see a clear progression. FYI, judging from the pictures, this coin looks to be more billon than silver.
If it makes you guys feel better.....I don't see it either. But I did find a little something that is worth looking at... http://the-ans.com/library/Conf2012CT1.html
