I ordered a silver proof and a regular proof set a few weeks ago from the mint. When I looked at the silver proof I saw the back of the case was cracked exposing the half dollar. It cost around $8.00 to return it to the mint for a replacement. Now the part I don't understand... When I checked my online banking site I saw that the mint had withdrawn $67.95 from my account. After talking to someone from the mint the explanation why this was done is still not clear. They said by Friday that I should be receiving a credit to my account for the $67.95. Does anyone have a logical explanation as to why this was done. I have been buying from the mint for 40 years and this was the first time I had to return something damaged so maybe this is a common practice.
the mint always pulls the money out of your bank for the replacements before the refund for your returned coins hits your bank account (at least for me)... Also, if you hand write the total postage paid for the return on the outside of the package that you send your return back on, they will refund that as well (again, at least for me). Hope it works out for you :smile
I just sent in some coins for replacement last week. About how long does it take for them to ship out replacements once they receive the return?
Not too long and they send it out the same way the initial order went out (ground or 2-day or next-day). The key indicator of when your replacement coins ship is shortly after they hit you with the new charge :smile
Thanks for the explanation. I guess it makes sense. I didn't know about getting the postage refunded. I am waiting about 2 weeks and the replacement still isn't here.
