I am recently getting back in to this hobby due to acquiring some coins from the estate of a relative. I got a couple of Walker half dollars and was struck (ha, pun) by how beautiful that design was. I went back to my own haphazard collection and pulled out my Franklin and my Kennedy and put them next to the Walker. I also have a Seated Liberty. That means going backward from the current design I have a gap because I don't have any Barber halves.

So I'm starting to look for one to fill in that hole. I am only starting my research, and am looking for suggestions as to what would be a good year / mint mark as a representative example. None of the coins I have are particularly valuable as far as rarity so I don't need an "extreme" example of a Barber either, at least not right now. Are there suggestions for year / mint that I should consider?

My price range is anything up to $100.

1915 P or 1913 P are nice, reasonable low mintage dates

On the budget you propose I would be looking for a 1906-D in problem free VF to XF. Higher mintage and they reworked the dies about then so you should be able to find one with full details to enjoy.

Better dates in that series all you are going to get with a $100.00 are problem coins or below good in grade.

Thanks, that gives me some ideas to get a bit more focused on my reading. Appreciate it!
