oK, So when looking up DD coins on coppercoins there are few reverse doubles compared to the obverse ones. Is this because people are just lazy like me and still have not checked most reverses? I am currently starting the process of checking some reverses and it just seems like most dates I look up there are none found yet. And no I have not found anything worth mentioning either yet.. O! And is there any cool strike varieties like a lincon monument full steps variety I should look out for, lol...
I think it is because most collectors pay more attention to the obverses. They are studied more while the reverses are often just given a cursory glance. Think about the WAM cents. The 1998 is by far the most common of the three but it was not discovered until 2000, and then the 2000 and the 1999 were turned up. Most people who look for WAM's only look at those three years, even though the same mix-up that created the WAM's in those years could have occurred in any year from 1994 to 2008, and could also have happened to Denver from 1994 to 1996. Do WAM's exist in those years? So far none are known, but very few people are looking too.
Cant mention the WAMs and not point out there is the elusive 1992 CAM.. I figure finding one is like finding your first 70 s small date, You strain check and strain your eyes some more untill you find one and realize you didn't have to do all that straining of the eyes to tell the difference, lol
the 1982 small date doubled die reverse wasn't discovered until 25 years after its release and it not easy to miss if you are looking.. Most searchers don't bother looking at the reverse.
I also have noticed that because of the sharper edges of the lettering most doubling looks like it could be MD on the reverse too.
1961 Proof 50 cent DDR, VP-001, FS-013 I am compelled by this thread to post my favorite DDR.
