Both nice coins for the era, but I really like the Leo VI.

Leo "the wise" usually come pretty nice. Its weird since emperors before and after come crummy many times, but many of his coins were well struck. I wonder if he was a coin collector and wanted to leave great coins for posterity? :)

I have often wondered if Romans collected Greek coins or did the Greeks collect their own and so forth.

And of course Octavian gave away interesting and beautiful Greek coins to friends of his.

Just curious, where is it recorded WC and medman. Also, I wonder what Octavian thought was interesting and beautiful.

Oh good gosh. I believe it was one of the historians noted it, but I have no clue the specifics. Its just one of those things I read in one of my books on Roman coinage or the history of coin collecting. That is the problem with many books, its hard to keep track where you read something.

I don't know your age medman, but I can assure you it gets worse with age. So many paths in life, it's hard to remember which went where.

One place that it appears is in Harlan Berk's 100 Greatest Ancient coins' prologue.
