what is the melt value of the plastic? Because the coin is already melted and we know the value of that

p.s. I really love using the smile+nod-your-head thing

My eyes were crossing looking at the pics, couldn't tell if it was the blurry pic or the damaged coin.

Anyone read the description? It is an R-6 and has a good pedigree.

I doubt it. One recently sold on heritage for 4K with AG details. This one has more meat on it that the one on Heritage. So probably 6k to 8k is a good range on the coin.

I like that fact that members can bash a coin because they dont have a clue of its value. As PG and Mark said.. check the coins known pedigree, how many there are and where this coin stands in the line with the others that have been found.

Reminds me of many years ago me posting a 1896S Barber Quarter and getting the its worth melt responses.. : )

Sometimes its best to not open mouth and insert foot when talking or responding to something you know nothing about. Nuff said.

I can't speak to the desirability or importance of the coin, but I will say this: if I were dealing coins in that range, I would definitely take my close-up photos using something better than a hand-held cell phone. For heaven's sake, you're trying to convince people that the coin is worth $10K! Why would you post a blurry, dark photo?

There are 9 specimens listed in the early date census (Not the condition census) only three are better than this coin. In the Condition Census this coin would rank somewhere around 9th finest known. I do think it is slightly over priced at $8,800 but not by much. He really should have done better with the obv picture though. A blurry picture for a coin of this rarity and value in inexcusable.

I think the seller isn't that great at eBay - text says "low starting bid".... It's a Buy It Now auction. There are no bids allowed.

I don't care if the coin was unique. I wouldn't buy if for 10 cents let alone 8K (and I know perfectly well the rarity of it).

Ten cents for a coin I didn't like but could readily resell for thousands?

    Please.

In fact, I wouldn't buy it with OPM.

I'd buy it. But then I collect large cents, and passing that up may result in having to wait decades for another opportunity to buy, if ever. There are some coins that transcend beauty and strike and eye appeal, and to look at them in such ways is ignorant. The Mona Lisa is flat out butt ugly, but if someone offered to sell it to me for a million dollars I'd have to be a complete moron to pass it up. Same thing.

Good no competition from jloring, now just have to get rid of a lot more people with more money than I have. :)
