Been trying to find a description of the difference between Pos. A & Pos. B, being offered with this coin...Anyone got pis/description for me?? Scott
Here's a link for President Dollars, same thing for the NA Dollars. http://www.smalldollars.com/dollar/page33.html
Agree on grading standard being no different. But not totally true about value. I sold a Pos A for twice what the Pos B was just last weekend. Some dates and mint marks can end up having less of one than the other available in some cases as happened with the 2010-P coins. These coins were both MS67's.
Since there is no attempt to control the orientation of the coin with respect to striking and edge letter orientation, Positions A and B will be statistically identical in occurrence. The relation of the obverse to the edge lettering is totally random, so statistics predicts that the total population of A and B positions will be about the same. Thus, I wouldn't pay a large premium for any position over the other. The price differences are a result of temporary availability and perception. IMHO, the emphasis on Positions A and B is simply another marketing tool and also gives the grading services another designation to put on the label. Ultimately, neither A or B will end up being any more scarce than any other.
