Honestly, I love coin roll hunting just for the fun of it, although it angers everyone around me for buying 50 $ in cents and maybe finding a dollar or so if im lucky. But as a child I have alot of time, so I do this with zero dollars spent for gas and other stuff because whenever I go to the bank for other reason, such as my mom needs to make a deposit, I get 50 or 100 dollars in boxes of nickels or cents, and I find good stuff. over all this isn't for the monetary gain. And then I can also go to the antique stores, searching ebay and going o yard sales. This is my strategy, which I doubt would work for adults, but It's all for the fun of opening that one roll and finding that silver.

Sounds like exactly what I do. And I'm an adult!

I ordered $2000 worth of halves my first time and spent the weekend figuring out a system. I found a few silver my first search but was into it more for the experience really. If you're trying to get rich searching rolls, well there are actually better ways to make money if that's your motivation. Just sayin.

Not sure what you're asking. I live in an urban environment so I walk around a lot instead of driving. I'm a member at like 75% of the banks in the area, so when I'm walking to the store I'll stop in a bank and grab like $100 in dimes, edge search them, and then dump them at the next bank. There are about 14 banks that I'm a member of in a 15 minute walk distance. The only limitation is that I'd like to grab $1000's at a time, but since I have to carry all of my coins, I'm limited by the weight I can carry in my bag. That forces a "LEAN" approach of only getting what I can carry and cycling through them often on the same trip rather than bulking them.

CRH isn't my only income, but there are a lot of ways to make more money from CRH than just finding the coins. :thumb:

Get a grocery car from a homeless guy and use it to carry your coin around ;)

They do make dollies that fold to the size of a notebook and only weigh a pound or two. You could easily throw it in a backpack.

As everyone has said, it's not so much about profitability, but the thrill of the hunt. I have found some pretty good items searching rolls I got from local banks. My rarest being the 1988 D, RDV 006 I found in 2010. Yesterday I found a 1952 D/D omm1-031. OK, the 88D could be a 6 figure coin since it graded at AU58+ which is the highest of the 4 coins ANACS has certified. PCGS nor NGC certify that one yet. The 52 D/D is probably worth upwards of 1c. So my time hasn't earned me a lot of money, but it beats the heck out of watching TV. lol

    20 pieces--10 dollars, 500 dollars per box.

Just a warning: Once you start, you'll be hooked! People (family, friends, tellers) will also look at you funny. Good luck!

I search rolls of cents for die varieties, and have found many in my searches. Some I keep for myself, and some I put up for sale. It's nothing to make a living off of, but an extra few dollars here and there never hurts. Plus, my main motivation for searching is not to make money, but because it is fun. :)

I think it's completely worth it. I love the feeling of dumping out a roll of coins and seeing one that isn't like the others peeking out under those everyday coins. It's for the thrill of staring at a roll, imagining the goodies that could be inside, and then finding out for yourself.

I love the look of silver (well, acually, i love the look of money in general. I even sign my name with dollar signs) so i think it's worth it to find a few even if they are worn off.

But i always find joy in things like this. My main hobby though is "car spotting" which is where you sit for a few hours per day by a bussy street waiting for a rare, exotic, or classic car to drive by so you can take a photo. That's fun too if you like cars.

They are out there. Silver dimes, silver quarters, 40% silver half dollars, wheat pennies...probably even better stuff than this...you just have to be patient and be prepared to go through a lot of rolls.

Yesterday I busted open 60 rolls of cents and found 25 wheats - and a couple of early George VI cents from Canada. I usually avoid searching cents because I am sort of tired of them - but the rare instances I still search them - ie my credit union makes me buy them if I wanna buy nickels and dimes, I am usually pleased.

Some times you make a nice find. Like once I bought 10 boxes of nickels and almost all of them had at least 1 buffalo nickel in them.
