Since completing my Icelandic Kingdom era set this past april ...I found a nice 1961 1 Krona in unc to add to my Icelandic Republic set ....its a tuff coin to find in Mint-State as well as the 1959 1 Krona with both coins,,, with a mintage of only 500,000 each. I have only seen one 1959 Krona a few years back in a PCGS holder but sold on ebay for $138.00 bucks by a dealer on the west coast that seems to sell every thing on ebay for hugh amounts of money.....very fishy if you ask me. Well here is a picture of my new baby.
Very nice. It looks gemmy. Like lots of scarce and very desirable moderns these list for almost nothing in Krause. Even after a spectacular increase this year they now list at $2. The good thing is if you're lucky you can find some great coins for next to nothing and the bad news is you can't find most of them because they are scarce. This situation helps no one really except those who know the coins are tough. Buyers take them back home from US coin shows if they can find them. These will show up a little in this country but I've seen few of the type and some have higher mintages.
Thank you CladKing.....Yes very Scarce indeed ,,,,,That's why I didn't really mind paying 12 bucks for it.... plus it was free shipping. Not to bad for a tuff coin to find ...even in circulated condition.
Thanks Bruce......It would have been interesting if it had a counter stamp.....Don't get any funny idea's..... I'm not going to send you my new baby to get counter stamped.......LOL
Yes I do.....I have the 1 krona , 2 kronur ,5 aurar , 1 eyrir and the Spiecmen strike in a PCGS holder of the 2 Kronur from the King-norton mint. I have not got around to finding a really nice 10 and 25 Aurar.
