I thought a cartouche was reserved for a royal name. I took the right character as a feminine sign but do not find the second from the right in lists.

Very cool, looks like a fossilized beetle. :D
You gotta stop showing these things, its contagious. Next thing you know I'm going to start looking for these too.

A cartouche was placed around every name.

This was to protect against 'magic', so others couldn't control you.

Hmm, I think you're right, was sure that any name would have been in a cartouche :foot-mouth:

The "basket" (right) can be used for "lady" but also also for "lord". So it could say something like "Lord of ****** Son of Ra"

    Oups, now I'm lost :rollling:

Btw, I'm pretty sure that yours is a name, surrounded by a cartouche.

The Son of Ra was the Pharaoh...

It looks as if it was part of the scarab (many have this "rim" near the edge) rather than the inscription, but it's possible (??).

Just have a strong feeling.. (the Son of Ra part makes me believe this)

What other information do you have?

I may be able to narrow it down...

Not much... the only other meaning, other than phonetic, that I've found for the lasso is "endure"...

I mean like Time Period, Size, etc...

Like the information above Steve's scarabs.

These are fascinating, and I want to see if I can translate yours :D

The size of my bug is 14 X 11 mm and the dating is 600 BC (according to the dealer). No additional details...

The cartouche seems to be visible on this one (bottom)

I'd research the Pharaohs of the Late Kingdom (this does require the dealer to be correct in dating)

Btw, a cartouche surrounds the entire name, not just a part of it

Yes, what I meant was that part of the cartouche on the BM example seems to be visible at the bottom, the rest of it being rather worned out. But it could just be the pic/lighting, or me :p

Hey Dionysos (and/or Ardatirion) => ummm, how "frail or brittle" are these scarabs?

I am curious how I am supposed to store/display these items? ... are they durable and able to be stored similar to coin (in a flip or in an album?) ... or are they very delicate and require careful storage/display?

    :dismay:

Mine does not look too fragile, but I wouldn't put it in a flip. It is stored in a small metal container (specifically for "collectors items") with a transparent lid.

If you want some (3-4), I think I got some extra (bought these in bulk when I collected minerals :nerd:).
