Hey guys, this coin spoke to me at my LCS the other day, and I cant get it out of my mind. I am sure the owner (who seems fairly honest) would be willing to negotiate on the price some. I really want this coin for my type set, but I am EXTREMELY amatuer at grading coins, and if I am going to spend this kind of money, I want to be reasonably certain that it would grade by PCGS. So I thought I would throw it out there to you gurus and see what you think. If you highlight and copy the link it into a new page, it shows you pictures that you can zoom in on. Thanks!! http://www.crcoins.com/details.asp?coin=Large Cent&id=4203
Cut and paste everything he posted - it works. That coin will return in a genuine holder - environmental and rim ding. My personal opinion is if you want a f-15 coin from PCGS then buy one already graded. Just my opinion.
I looked at auction records on the Heritage site, and think the price seems a bit high, but in the ballpark.
Price seems very high to me. It's an S65 which is known as the shielded hair variety as the border on the bottom left of the obverse is very prominent and 'shield' the hair on the obverse from wear. Needless to say, this variety is almost always over graded as a result. That combined with this being a problem coin with corrosion and I would not pay anywhere near that price, I am not sure I would pay half that much. It's a common variety, possible the most common variety, and as such can be found in much better condition. These types of coins, common variety with problems, will always be tough to sell.
Thanks beef! That is exactly the reason I wanted to consult with you guys before making the purchase. You saved me from wasting a lot of money!
Beef is right that the price is high but he has the attribution wrong, S-55 not 65. Key diagnostic is the very high A in STATES.
