J&J Coins in Hammond Indiana was robbed yesterday. http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/...cle_0cd67e27-6952-561a-816b-0745dd3704ea.html http://posttrib.suntimes.com/20241345-537/j-j-coins-in-hammond-robbed-at-gunpoint.html I didn't go there much. I thought the owner and his staff were rude and the coins were overgraded and overpriced. But it's scary to think that a business so close to me was robbed at gunpoint. According to the news, the robber was dressed like a UPS delivery person. He arrived before the store opened. He was carrying a couple packages. Surveillance film shows the employee helping the robber with the packages before he pulled out a sawed off shotgun. He tied the employees hands with zip ties and made him lay on the ground. He was in the store for over an hour, taking his time, picking through the coins. According to the owner, the store has been in business since the early 1960s. It has been robbed four times since then--three of the times this year alone!!! A sure sign of the times.
oh wow what a loss, 3 times this year?! that shop should have a gun in it by now, after 5 times! very sad..
I find it odd that after being robbed twice, the owners didn't have either. A. A button under the counter that when pressed, signals the police to arrive. B. Some form of self defense, like a gun.
When you rent its like you own it so a gun on your property is ok. Why would anyone work in a place he rents with no right to protect himself. Id have one on my side one or two handy behind the counter. Do you think the guy would have robbed him if he saw a gun by his side. Its a reason i like open carry it lets them know that it works both ways.
Wouldn't that of been a good time to draw your weapon? I don't feel a darn bit sorry for the owner. He has been robbed 5 times now. He should of at least had a panic button under a counter or a desk. If you have been robbed 5 times now, I think one should of learned their lesson and had a bit more security installed.
I watched the video and even if the guy had a gun in the back he wouldn't have been able to get at it. He would have had to carry and have whipped it out pretty fast to be able to defend himself before he was zip tied up.
What's the point of owning a gun for "security" if you don't have it loaded and at the ready on your person?
Carrying a gun is a lifestyle. I have my concealed carry permit and have trained extensively but staring down the barrel of a shotgun gives you few choices. Try to outdraw him and you better hit critically the first shot or you'll swallow a whole lot of lead even as he bleeds out. What i'm saying is, you have to be pretty good to beat a shotgun at close range.
i saw on one of those "caught on camera" tv shows a man was attempting to rob a quick stop store and when the robber turned his head for a second the 4'5" Indian woman pulled an at least three and a half foot ax from under the counter and started to swing.!! I said damn!! she is ok!
That is unfortunate but glad to hear that the proprietor and any customers were not hurt. Dressing in brown like a UPS delivery man was a crafty way to gain access to the store. However, let's hope the men in blue can get this guy. TC
