Not intentionally , but some do have that look as you can see by the two that sit before you .

You guys may be right but I'm not ready to agree that it is really a proof.
    I'm thinking NGC missed it.

Wow, congrats! I remember how we all debated earlier about whether it was a proof or business strike. Beautiful coin!

I have to respectfully disagree. There's little chance a biz strike could be so perfectly struck with that finish. I agree with Ray, early strike satin proof whose dies eventually smoothed to produce the classic brilliant coins we typically see.

Has anyone seen a proof where the areas like the shoulder have planchet marks . Wouldn't the extra pressure and strike of a proof have filled in the shoulder completely ? Anyway that is one super nice coin that I'd love to own .

Personally, I have never seen a proof (at least a 20th century proof) where the planchet marks remained unless this happens to be the exception.

I agree, but Brilliant Proofs start with highly polished planchets, so the typical planchet marks have been removed. It may be that no marks would show might no matter how poorly the coin is struck. Supposedly by 1950 there was some loss of knowledge on how to make proofs after the last were struck in 1942 (that's the "story"). My theory is that the first proofs of 1950 were made with un-polished planchets and dies and this is why we see satin surfaces with planchet marks.

One thing not shown in the pics is the edge of the coin. I believe all Proofs have a distinctive, flat / sharp / mirror finish.

Nice 1950 proofs, I was thinking it was proof from the start but not that grade.
