Well as the title says - This is the 2nd example that is known . The other is a PCGS PR66 as well.

A neat variety that joins the ranks with the 1952 & 1953.

The other PCGS example was shared on the PCGS forum a few weeks back. Just wanted to share some love here on CT.

That's cool! Why didn't NGC give it the variety designation?

That is one cool coin!!! Do you have an interest in the early proof sets? The reason I ask is that I almost bid on that 1954 set you had on ebay about a week or so ago but it was a bit out of my price range.

It is too new of a variety. The discovery piece was only made public a few weeks ago.

Once the new book comes out that will have it listed they should attribute it. I did call & ask & they said "not at this time"

Not in particular , I just get to buy them ocassionaly. Was it one of the sealed 1954 box sets that you were going to bid on ?

Yes it was one of the sealed ones. The recent market for the 54's has been soft/low, at least on ebay. I've been looking for a "run-of-the-mill" problem-free '54 proof set in capital plastic, or a sealed one if it's the right price, but my budget is relatively limited for the sealed ones. The one I saw I think finished above $150, about twice what I'm looking to spend. I'll probably have to just keep checking ebay from time to time hopefully to find that almost gem proof set with bad pictures that sells at 4am on a Thursday night for $65 ;)

I love these early proof sets. Since I'm a Franklin lover and collector, I'm still working on finishing the whole set, missing the early proofs (50-54). I can get the 54 easily but the others will need to be saved for. I also love these early proof sets, so I just buy them as one entity to satisfy both of my interests.

Cool! I have 4-5 of these. I'll have to check them out...if I can find them.

I need to hit the PowerBall so I can hire a personal assistant...to keep track of this stuff.

I actually hit the PowerBall yesterday...but only for $4. I suspect personal assistants go for more than that.
