Your thread inspired me and ended up making many people happy.

I picked up the notes Friday morning before work. I brought them with. When we were done doing end of shift paperwork.... You know, that final few minutes that precede that last, endless minute of the shift? Yeah, YOU know....
Everyone was at the nurses' station; it was basically shift change so more coworkers there at the time.

I take a deep breath, walk up to the charge nurse (around my age, pretty) and with a straight face, and a loud voice, I say "Hey, you wanna see my Dong?"

She blinks once. Twice. "Ummm..." People are looking.

I say, " Oh come on! You've seen Dong before haven't you?"

She smiles. (Keep in mind I bring numismatic items to show and tell about at least a few times a month. She obviously has an idea that it must be something of numismatic nature...... Right? Right. Those from the oncoming shift, however WERE  blissfully unaware of my affair with money.)

She says, "I know I should say no but..."

I interrupt: "I'm gonna whip out my Dong right here in front of everyone, I'm not shy about it! "

I slowly reached down to my scrub pocket, gleefully noting that I could count 8 pairs of womens' eyes on my hand (and not so gleefully noting one male pair of eyes focused in as well  ) ....... Just kidding about that haha he knows I collect as I'd shown him my other pick up from that auction just minutes prior to this :) it just fits in with the story so well it's too hard to not tell. After all, he WAS looking ;) he just also had an educated guess it was coin/currency related.

So I pulled it out. Of its envelope and then all the girls wanted to hold my Dong. (the male nurse declined, laughing and shaking his head :) ) they passed my Dong back and forth to one another. (There was a LOT of Dong to see, after all.) They commented on the eye appeal of my Dong, and didn't even care that some of it was wrinkly!

Thinking that that exchange may prove too much for some elderly patients, today I just told the story to them. :) preceded of course by an innocent, "Hey, did you know that in Vietnam their unit of money is called Dong; here we use dollars but there they use Dong."

Then I get: "Yes I knew that". Or, "Oh really? That's funny isn't it, young man? I didn't know that! Hee hee!"

By the end of every telling I had these old folks in stitches! One old man laughed until he had tears streaming down his cheeks! Then he says to me, "now ya got more work to do, cuz I laughed so hard I ****ed myself!" We both enjoyed a second round of gut-busting belly laughs! ( For his part, he has accepted it as a fact of elderly life and he isn't too shy to joke about it. Most incontinent patients will try to make light of their condition and this is a great coping mechanism as those with too much pride are often frustrated, embarrassed, irritable, shy, and usually end up injuring themselves badly trying to 'do it myself!' Rather than asking for or accepting offered assistance.)

Even at the gas station, one of "my" clerks was on tonight so I told her the tale. She, the police officer and the public utilities worker behind me were still chuckling as I walked out the door.

The residents at my facility average age in the 1950's was 'middle age' (born 1913 - late 1920's early 1930's) and they all found my yarn, retold on this thread, ;) to be not just acceptable, but EXCEPTIONAL! :).

I hope you all are as entertained reading as I was doing. It was fun :thumb:
