Meant to tell you guys that this coin is an S/S with the designation of MPD-001 whatever that means. Im assuming multi-punched date? Not sure what the 001 refers to, the actual die used? I am curious though, how could it be a MPD (assuming D is for Date, but the mint mark is denoted as being an over type also) any clarification?
in my opinion you should think about what you are saying. he is just posting a coin he bought to share with everyone under "Let's see your newest acquisitions!", and you are saying his slab seems cheap because its PCGS. he didn't ask for your advice. how would you like it if every time you posted a coin some one said "Hey treylxapi47 those are nice coins for being super common and heavily circulated"
Some more cattle and what not. Gotta have a Jeffy or two in the mix. Nothing special, just nice. Been on a Peso kick lately. These 60's Peso's are only 10% silver, but they create some stunning color.
I have been putting together a Morgan $1 Date/Mint Mark set for awhile now and have been down to the final 3(89CC, 93S & 94P) for a little over a year now. I finally broke down and bought the 89CC last week and I am now "officially" broke. Maybe I will follow someone else here and change my username to "PBroke", or I could change it to "Doghouse", cause that is where I have been since the wife found out. I can't wait until I go for the 93S. After that somebody here might have to log in as me and change my username to "6_Feet_Under".
CouchSurfer or Runforthehills may be mine soon. I know exactly where you are coming from. Congrats on the pick up. Better spoil the Mrs for Mother's Day.
Picked up a few Jeffersons this last week on eBay. These are the sellers pics. I believe the seller is among us here
You should probably go actually read my first response to the OP. I never said anything about PCGS' slabs in that reply. When ASKED by a different forum member about why i would send to NGC over PCGS and incur the fee, i then gave this repy, which was NOT directed to the guy posting the coin in the first place, and secondly i said this right here: "Either way, it seems his choice has been made (The OP) and I agree with his decision to go with PCGS for a reholdering. If that's what makes his coin fit his collection and satisfies his desires, then that's all we can do as collectors and mentors." So before policing the great big bad anonymous internet, i suggest you make sure your house is in order before calling folks out, because i am not about to sit by and be passively aggressively chastised over my posting behaviors when ive committed no offense. If i was out of line or out of hand the mods surely wouldve said something to me or reprimanded me. If not there is always the OPs CHOICE (Not yours) to report me if they found something offensive. You are also forgetting the last simple little fact in all of this, if you dont like what someone has to say or criticize about your coin DO NOT POST IT. It gets no more simple than that. As for this: 'how would you like it if every time you posted a coin some one said "Hey treylxapi47 those are nice coins for being super common and heavily circulated"' Refer to the sentence above ^ I simply do not wear my little itsy bitsy teeny tiny heart strung feelings out on my sleeve in an anonymous internet forum, and anyone getting their feelings hurt over simple text on a screen needs to back away from the computer as quickly as they can and go rejoin civilization. In all of this, im not really trying to be harsh or anything, but come on man, this is the internet. If you feel the need to police peoples thoughts and words, and cant take a little non-malevolent or misused negative comment and just let it go, well you quite possibly need to take a step back and rethink your thought making process. Have a great day. Oh and there is a world of difference between calling someones coin a piece of crap, and a third-party slab a piece of crap. Im sure im not the only person who thinks PCGS' slabs could use an overhaul.
Im feeling generous so ill put it all together for you: Original Content from OP My first reply: No disrespect at all Then this happened: to which KJ replied: I replied: Then Caz replied: Then I went: To which you raced in and made a comment half-cocked saying this: Do a little looking before you leap, cause sometimes theres more then what you originally thought.
Debasement is an age old story - this coin is a modern version of what the Romans did time and again - dilute the denarii and antoniniani until they barely contained any silver at all. Since they were using copper, the coins were quite dark, so their solution to making them look like silver was a thin wash. I'm guessing these were alloyed with a certain amount of nickel, right? Otherwise, how could they look so bright? And here's an interesting and convenient calculator I found for finding the the melt value of Mexican coins... http://www.silverrecyclers.com/Calculators/mxcoin_calculator.aspx That peso comes in at $1.22, but of course it's worth much more for its numismatic interest and great eye appeal.
Snagged this guy off Ebay. Sellers photos, pretty excited to snap some photos of my own. Not many points on the registry, but for $15 should be a good buy.
