Grade this silver 3 cent piece

    First year issue 1851

    Im guessing the grade as fine. this guess comes from a picture grade guide.

    So id like your opinion and also the value with it being holed

    it was pretty much free and my first 3 cent piece

    the date isent as bad as it looks in the picture

    Grade? I assume you mean pretending the hole doesn't exist. :D

    Pretending the hole doesn't exist, I'd go AG-G.

    its a lot more then g look at how to grade guides and even the red book discrption

    no man, no. loneguy is right, Good is a bit high, its worn, and I learned the hard way that problems in coins affect grade. Even without the hole it's AG-G, no higher than G-4

    Fine to low vf (without the hole)

    AG-G Damaged and even if not damaged still AG-G But for the right price a nice hole filler.

    Fine-12 without the hole from the photo.

    If the hole wasn't there, I'd say VG-10.

    VG-F. It's better than G. Without the hole that is.

    Is it the angle of the photo or what causes the 51 to be smaller than the 18 ?

    My grade would be G-4

    grading these are difficult because of the uneven strikes.

    [TD="colspan: 2"]G4 Good - Star worn smooth. Legend and date readable.
    VG8 Very Good - Outline of shield defined. Legend and date clear.
    F12 Fine - Only star points worn smooth.
    VF20 Very Fine - Only partial wear on star ridges.
    EF40 Extremely Fine - Ridges on star points show.
    AU50 About Uncirculated - Star shows trace of wear at each point. Center of shield may be weak.
    MS60 Uncirculated - No trace of wear. Light blemishes.
    MS63 Select Uncirculated - Some distracting contact marks or blemishes in prime focal areas. Luster may be impaired.
