Have several dozen uncirculated mint sets and have been trying to sell them on eBay.
Put the price at 99 cents and they either sell at 99 cents or they don't sell at all.
Given the fees, shipping hassles, time & work involved, this is insane!

Not to mention eBay scammers who claim an uncirculated coin is "tarnished" and wants a partial refund or he'll leave negative feedback.

I'm just going to cut the packages with scissors and use the coins for spending money.

Next I'm going to start on my proof sets [IMG]

I may draw the line at silver proof sets. May.

If you know that's the result, why not start the price at $3 or $5 or something? If it sells, you get 200-400% more, and if it doesn't sell, you have the same outcome.

    :devil:ebay is One place buyers
Run!!! ebay makes seller jump thru hoops. Then steals what if any money made by sale in changes seller fee plus pushes shipping free.
After you do the math eBay made 98% if the money.

I agree with giving them away. I bought a few 2013 penny rolls and I gave one to this little kid who collects coins. Worth the .50 cents.

Yep... I like giving Ikes to my friends' kids. Having never seen one, they are thoroughly impressed and are also excited about getting a dollar.

Thanks, giving them away is a good idea.

Ike dollars make great gifts for kids but I think the kids would have to be collectors to be interested in mint sets. Or maybe not, if they've never seen one before. Can't hurt anyway, thanks for the advice.

Definitely not worth the hassle dealing with eBay and its various miscreants!

Depending on how many you have, you might be able to drop them off at a small local auction house. I wouldn't do that for more expensive coins, but I've seen these kind of small priced things go for twice their typical value.

You should have tried to sell them on here. No ebay fees.

Those mint sets from the 70s and 80s are basically worth face value, so it doesn't really matter what you do with them after they've been cherrypicked. I hunted through a bunch of them and found a handful of keepers, but after that, about all you can do is give them away. So why not spend them?

Just a few weeks ago, I spent a handful of Kennedy half dollars from mint sets at Turkey Hill. The cashier was so intrigued with them she immediately took out a few dollar bills and bought them all. I was glad somebody got some collecting pleasure out of them.

Not sure which EBay you are talking about. I've been bidding like crazy on every $.99 silver auction in sight, and none of them sold at less than spot + $6 + shipping. Most went for over spot+$10 some at over twice spot. Out of hundreds and hundreds of bids on ASEs (Max bid $28.20), I won ONE because I wasn't paying close enough attention to the shipping. ($8)

The reference to $0.99 auctions was for uncirculated mint sets, not proof sets or silver proof sets.

I keep an eye on silver proof sets on FeeBay too and I swear most sellers are trying to get more for their sets since the price of silver tanked a few weeks ago.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about ASE mint rolls. Help me out here...are you talking about putting up uncirculated clad coins for less than face value?

    +1

Before, when silver was >$30, I was able to land SQ proof sets for $24-26 on a fairly reliable basis (shipping excluded). Now with silver at ~$24, I can't find any of these sets for under $30. WTH?

As for these proof/uncirc sets if you can get $4-6 apiece for them you're in good shape.

And yes, there's just something very satisfying about that loud *crack* you hear when the proof sets start to come apart. :)

If they come nicely packaged, why not just hold onto them and give them as gifts instead? Save you some bucks buying token gifts for those times you need to give something.
