When thinking about Roman-era Egypt, it's good to remember that the Romans were as chronologically distant from the pharoahs as we today are from the Caesars.

just imagine some of these ancients could have been stolen from a tomb

I interpret this as an insult towards ancient coin collectors...

The chance of an ancient coin outside of a museum being from a tomb is small...

More likely is they were a hoards or just lost...

Why else do they need to make so many coins every year in the states...

    Coins are lost...

that was not ment as an insult and its quit possiable that some one stole them and then "LOST" them its the history and mystery of what the coins have done that i refer to

I detected no malice in your previous post. But this scenario is highly unlikely. The vast majority of coins are found in hoards or individual finds well away from major archaeological sites, including tombs. In fact, it's your very assumption that gives ancient coin collectors a bad name and puts us at odds with the State Department.

    and why is that

  13. Ardatirion

The State Department issues, or the fact of where coins are found?

You can't tell with American coins too...

    Or World coins...

Or any coin for that matter...

Your argument is invalidated by that....

how can you invalidate what we are talking about with something we arent even talking a bout

    Glad that's done.

I will say, however, there is a move on to limit the sale of antiquities including Ancient coins because of the perception that many of these coins have been illegally removed from their country of origin or finding. I hope that never happens.

    Now, back to Egyptian coins.
