I also have the King Tut 1 pound coin and the Cleopatra coin. these 2 are cheap on Ebay. I did a thread on my King Tut coins in here. i will be back tomorrow. sorry in the middle of doing something. i will take pics of all my Egypt coins for you to look at tomorrow.

:thumb:UK coins are some that are like the Roosevelt Dime Over looked!!! There a lot to learn from England pass coinage.I found 1 UK site that OK.here the link if you want to learn more about Great Britain's coins:kewl: http://www.coinsgbforum.com/
A French Trade Dollar - a Piastre de Commerce Indo-Chine dollar, discovered in the same cigar box as the British dollar posted a while back. This one came with a 50 cent variety as well, which I have not yet gotten pictures of. Pic quality isn't the best, but... Question: I own a U.S. trade dollar, and now the British and French equivalents...Just curious if anyone knows how many other countries produced a dollar for trade with China. I was told that Japan produced a dollar (although I've not seen examples of it), but are there others? With three in hand, I'm thinking it would be fun to pursue a type set.
I'm not a big a European coin collector, but I find the English coinage to be both fascinating and attractive. I too have had difficulty finding many quality sites that provide good information on modern English coinage.
Great Britain has a trade dollar I think. let me go check. brb duh you already said that dohhhh sorry.
Slider. I just did an Ebay search from Japan trade dollars. yup they have the dragon on them. I think there were 5-7 auctions of them ranging from $125-4,000. I saw 2 "Maui" trade dollars with a whale on them looked modern 2001. ?
Slider. I just did another Ebay search with just the words "trade dollar". 1943 Yunnan French IndoChina 1 Tael opium trade dollar silver coin (looks different than other dollars) cool looking. (2) Mexico 1897 silver 8 reales (1) Mexico 1900 1 peso 1780 Maria Theresa proof dollar restrike 1907 Straight Settlements trade dollar Edward VIII 1986 Canada Niagra Falls trade dollar ? that's about it. that would make an interesting set. I think you should do it. I would like to see it after you get them all
enochian- I am just about to take pics of my eygpt coins and my girlfriend snags the camera to take pics of the new humming bird at our new humming bird feeder. it will be awhile....fighting her for the camera ugh.
ok took the pics , the lighting and focus might be crap.... ok uploading them now give me about 5-10 muntes.
Thanks for the info. I think I will be pursuing a set...I'll have to decide where to draw the line...the straits settlement coinage (of which I know a little, not a lot) was targeted toward the East Indies, first used by the East Indies Trading Co. The straits dollar was issued to replace the other foreign dollars commonly traded at the time, including the British trade dollar. So although not targeted for trade in China, the straits dollar could certainly be considered a trade dollar. It'll take me some time, but I'll accumulate a set. I'll post them here as I get them.
I look at this thread and see many of coins I would like to know more about, but it seems to be a blanket thread for newest buys. I am curious how come these awesome coins don't have there own thread and background so us "other" guys may learn from you guys? I would like to know diameter and weights for many of these coins. Do world collectors not record or are not concerned with physical dimension? Curious?
