Saw this closing with no bids just above melt I'll happily take a nice 1904-O Vam 4b (rusty fishhook) for near melt
Nice Coin. You must have a really good eye and/or computer monitor, cause I don't see any obverse clashing and I can't see the pitting on the reverse? Either way, cool coin
I also don't see the clash marks on the obverse but the reverse looks like their might be some pitting using the zoom feature on ebay. Still amazes me how much morgans go for on ebay.
I think you paid a lot more than melt on this coin. It looks like you paid double melt from the eBay completed listings. By the sounds of it, you did well on it because its a VAM, but this coin seemed to go for a normal AU Morgan right now.
How did you find a Morgan on eBay at just above $18? I rarely see any go for below $30 and those are G4's
all Morgan's are VAM's, here are some pictures of the Hit-List-40 1904o VAM 4b from the SSDC/Vamworld website (I hope I can use them here, my current dues are paid to the SSDC :smile). I think the OP got a fair deal and did not overpay... I also think the OP's coin is indeed a VAM; just not the 4b.
Yeah, I just scanned ebay and some 1921's are going for 34$. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-MORGAN...86?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item19dbfde8b6
Apparently.... even if a seller lists an item with the "best offer" option, there's no need for email. However, if a seller (OR buyer) wants to break policy and do a private transaction via email (to avoid fees), well, that's their business... but I don't agree with it.
Exactly! Or if you wish me to be more specific, I messaged him through E-bay with a best offer (even though he did not have the BO option) he did have it as BIN for $49. As a general rule I have found they will ususaly accept 75-80% of buy it now price if there are no bids already in place (and sometimes even if there are) I do not EVER recommend taking e-bay sales private unless you know the seller/dealer well enough to trust you won't be screwed. As for getting them at or near melt prices, that seldom happens here and never at local shops as even if they sell em to me at melt the closest shop is still $10 in gas away so $25 on the bay is usualy cheaper for me then driving 30+ miles for a considerably poorer selection (not that this actualy stops me from check several times a week for new goodies )
Very possibly it is, pics are the same or so close I could not say otherwise, and the seller is correct but I did not pay the price shown on that listing. Also if I had wanted to share that level of information I would have posted the original listing myself.
If you didn't want to share "that level of information", you shouldn't have used the seller's photos. Or posted it in general...When you post something like this cherrypick, and post that you contacted the person on eBay, it's a simple exercise to find the exact listing, especially with the pictures to verify and a VAM to base the ID off of. P.S. Sorry if this comes across as harsh, but you gotta use some common sense if you want to keep anonymity. Take it from a 19 y.o. that supplements his income by tracking down bondjumpers using the internet.
Well considering there is a completed eBay listing with the same pictures and has a winning bid, I assumed that to get the coin at near "melt price" that he had to pay outside of eBay or do something else because there's a big difference between that price and melt.
