I didn't make it to Chicago this year :-( But did win a couple lots in the Heritage auction. Anyone else make it there? Trip report anyone??
I didn't make it there either. I got a trip report from a member of the CICF who has been there the last 39 years. He said preview day was a mess with all of the flooding, and many dealers had a hard time getting there. He said one reported it took him over two hours to get there from the airport, normally a 4 minute ride. I was pretty well bummed about not being able to go either.
I was there for most of the show. Overall, it was fairly poorly attended from my perspective - I did spend some quality time with dealer friends at a couple nice dinners but many people couldn't make it because of the weather. I live nearby and it wasn't too hard to travel in, provided you avoided River Road which was literally a river. I didn't find anything on the floor despite really trying to convince myself to love a couple pieces I was looking at, but they were lacking in a few too many areas so I passed. I spent a while in the auctions and won a couple coins far lower than I was willing to spend, and the coins which I consigned realized prices considerably higher than I expected, so I'm happy
I attended. I wrote about it in a separate post which you can find if you go back a few pages, but it was kind of a "meh" experience for me. I buy only lower-end stuff, and really I'm hoping to search bins of coins for 25 or 50 cents or a dollar each. Only a few people had such bins, and even some who did had them way overpriced. Many dealers had books or boxes of individual coins, but when I would look at some common coins to get an idea of the prices they were charging, they were so ridiculous that I didn't waste my time looking for the coins I really wanted. A week later there was a Central States coin show in nearby Schaumburg and that was even worse from my perspective. They said there were 275 dealers, but only 1 had anything I was interested in. It was mostly slabbed U.S. coins, which I have no interest in whatsoever.
Well maybe next year then sir. I usually see a few TCACC members there, but many did not attend this year for various reasons. Its always fun to meet people there and talk coins, even though I am not in your league of acquisitions.
