Eh-heh-heh => I was innocently searching around and merely gazing upon coins this weekend, not planning-on actually pulling the trigger (for I am supposed to be on the self-proclaimed "wagon"), but I came across this lil' bobble and I just couldn't resist ...

It was fairly inexpensive by stevex6 terms ($50-ish) ...

    a) I thought that Tyche was cool (I seem to be on a bit of a Tyche tangent ... sorry Bing)

    b) I thought that the patina kinda added to the whole pyre/fire effect (it looks cool, like a disaster flick!!)

    c) I admit that I have a crippling weakness for counterstamps ...

=> so all 3 together, drove me to "purchase-phase" ... yes, I fell off the wagon, but it was merely a $50 tumble (I swear I'm gonna climb back onto that wagon and duct-tape myself to the seat!!) ................ I hope you like the coin (I think it rocks!!)

Do you know anything specific about the countermark? Was it used to re-tariff the coin?

Love those Tyche's. This one has a visual appeal what with the way the patina turned out. And the counterstamp! That is great. I do not know counterstamps, but there are those who make a collection of them. I am curious about this stamp. I've never seen one like it. Good catch Jerry. Now back on the wagon before Momma finds out.

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

that's a great coin.....counterstamped head on bust, animal, crazy reverse.

but who or what is "sandan"? the main thing i get on my google searching is the Pokemon thing...

    Sandan.jpg

    i don't think that's it.:goofer:

No, yah, that's it => Sandan was the first ancient Pokemon!!

If I remember my ancient studies accurately, ummm, I think Heracles had to fight Pikachu and Sandan for access to Level-II (I may be wrong?)

    ;)

Hi JA ... how was your weekend? (mine was good ... nice and relaxing)

    => ummm, aren't all of the counterstamps a "re-tariff"??

Oooops yah, I must admit that I bought this coin on 100% "man, it looks cool" reasoning ... I will try to find out some interesting facts (stay tuned)

LOL, that's Sandshrew (I grew up with the original Pokemon so I still know a lot of it like the back of my hand :D). Sandan (which I had to look up though) is it's name in German.

Oh and nice pickup steve! :thumb:

Sorry fellas, but that's all I could find on Wikipedia ... ummm yah, I admit that is fairly weak research, but at least it basically describes the scene on my cool coin!!

I also found this photo of another cool coin (sadly, this is "not" my coin) which shows Sandan on the reverse:

... man, there are sooooooo many cool coins out there, but not nearly enough coin-cash, eh?

    Great Pickup!

I loved Red (I found a new copy 3-4 years after release)

Managed to fill up the Pokedex with everything (which I caught)...

I am older than most (except for maybe Doug), and I don't even remember my kids playing this game.

I'm a little older than you, but I've never touched it. It's not that I don't like gaming, but I never felt any attraction to Pokemon.

Anyway, my idea of gaming is not the norm. For instance, I played one semi open-source game, became intrigued with the code and CG software, spent a year learning the code and CG software, then programmed my own game that used the original game's engine.

All you youngsters and your computer games.

I had a PC JR, with no hard drive and single sided, single density 5.25" floppy you had to boot MS DOS to. Then you loaded your game afterwards. Yeah, about 100kb of RAM left to run your program. All of my games were text based, "you enter a clearing, L, R, S? You enter a cave......a monster approaches......"

Who are you calling a youngster, junior? The first program I ever wrote had to go on punch cards! :)

    Amen to that...

    I normally play Indie games...

With small communities (~50k on one game that I'm playing quite a bit)

    Hmm... which game?

    Nope...

    I'm quite a bit younger...

Most of my generation, however, has played Pokémon.

With a 1998 release date in NA, it makes sense ;) :p
