Dad took alot of prisoners after the battle of the Bulge....as well as liberated concentration camps.....by that time no one was a Nazi....as dad would say Nix Nazi was two words they made clear as they surrendered.
Not a single coin, all nazi propaganda ... Not exactly what I'd call "only the best", but YMMV of course. Christian
Do you know much about his story? I'm fascinated with the American Blitzkrieg and the Battle of Bulge... The fall of a Terror... That's not true... A minority that were completely brainwashed still were Nazi, but most weren't at the end of his reign.
To be honest I hate posting such items and only do so for one reason...to show others that this part of history did exist, and so no one will ever forget that it did! As many of the people this era effected are now gone or near the end of their lives....that said all of us need to remember all of them and never revisit such tragic time in history.
As per my father most were so afraid of what was coming next ...as they knew the entire world would know the horror of the camps. When the end was near for this party that those whom had a hand would be held accountable. Yes many high party members did keep with party lines ,but others were in fear for any parts they may of had. His stories still haunt him at 94 years of age. I am honored to be able to call him Dad, and to have been given these items to post not a a trophy but as a reminder to all this really happened. I hope one day to donate them to a museum in his name so generations to come will know what this era in time was about. And to all whom gave their lives to stop world wide madness!
Please don't get me wrong - such decorations sure have their place, and I'm not saying you should not show them. They just are not quite the kind of exhibits I would expect in a topic about Germany - coins - only the best. Christian
I wish I was. My wife died many yrs ago, and my kids are in their 30's. So I have some extra money to buy German Talers.
Christian I do agree with you view on this topic...I have no issues ....if you wish to delete my post. I should of kept to the threads topic German coins and never posted these as you are correct they have no merit to this thread, I also apologize to anyone to whom these medals may have offended. Regards Paddy
Let's just leave them where they are - and if others post decorations or medals, we can still make a separate topic from and with those posts. Here is a very recent €2 coin, and while the design is probably not among the mostest beautifullest of them all, hehe, I find it interesting. It is a French-German double set of circulating commems dedicated to the Elysée Treaty anniversary. On the right you see the German coin, in the center is the common reverse, and the French coin is on the left. The two men depicted are Charles de Gaulle (FR, left) and Konrad Adenauer (DE, right). Christian
And then ... other countries have their state quarters too. The Federal Republic of Germany consists of 16 states (Länder), and each of them has been or will be featured on a circulating €2 commem. Here are two examples, one that is, in my opinion, not that good (Hamburg - St. Michael's tower and lots of empty space) and one from this year that is better (Baden-Württemberg - Maulbronn monastery). Images from Wikipedia and the German Numismatic Office. As you can see in the Elysée Treaty and Baden-Württemberg images, the country indicator is now a mere "D". Putting the full country name on the ring is something that cannot be done with newer designs, and for some reason the government does not like the ISO-style "DE". So in this case (below, right) the larger D is short for the Federal Republic of Germany while the smaller D is the Munich mintmark. Christian
