Just now the postman stopped off with this note, French Afars & Issas P34. It's hard to find, and on top of it this one spent the last three months traveling around the world's post offices just to make me nervous. In any event, it finally arrived and I'm happy to see it. This is the key note of the Franco-Ethiopian Railroad series, so I now have them all (seven in total). If you want to see the rest (signature and various other minor varieties, here's the link to the rest). Dave
$2 Bills Just picked these up at the bank for face value. Along with 29 other 1953, A, B and 1963. Just had to show someone.
Awesome find! Stars and in decent condition. Thats a $100 haul right there for the stars alone. Any word as to who turned those in?
While I cannot condone keying a car, a booger on the drivers side door handle is just the ticket... Today's new get, well when I got that first Brazil and saw the intricate design and great color of ABNCo, you knew there'd be more didn't you? If you didn't you haven't followed this thread closely enough... so there's more! This 10 Cruzeiro note has a great allegorical design on the reverse (national unity) - I love the allegorical designs. Great color on the front, and this note is so crisp if you touch your screen, you might get a paper cut...
Dave: That is an excellent French Afars & Issas example! MEC: I like that note and plan to target some Brazil notes when I can find the right example at the right price... I have been more interested lately in Central and South American notes as well as notes from Mexico. I recently picked up these 2 Mexican notes: 10 PESO 1915 STATE OF SINALOA MEXICO (I love the backs on this series!!!) A less choice example but still a very cool note, 1915 50 Centavos Gobierno Convencionista De Mexico
Really like the blue back on that note TT... Well, today I had planned to show off my new 1928 Red Seal which came in. Alas, it has a defect that prevents me from keeping it. Sad face... So, let's head back to Costa Rica, this time a Five Colones remainder. Great color and design by ABNCo. This note dates from 1901, and I think it was mailed that year since it took FOR EVER to arrive from Costa Rica. But arrive it did, and glad it did, since it has more vibrant color than the tie-dye concession at a Grateful Dead concert...
I've been missing the quintessential Woodchopper. Today I admit an uncirculated (albeit Speelman/White) chopper into my large size legal tender set. After this, it's going to get really, really pricey. It will probably be a long time before I can afford a $50 in decent shape. [1917 $1 - On its way] :hail:I traded this note in towards a Martha. An upgraded note is on its way.:hail: 1917 $2 1917 $2 Star 1880 $10 1878 $20
First paper acquisition in some months - too busy with other hobbies and stuff. This one has been on the short list for my collection, now the only Canadian on the list is the Standard Bank $20 from 1919: The evocative imagery of Britannia and her lion is priceless and is proprietary to the bank and not the printer. I just love the colour contrasts of this note with the deep green versus black. Dominion Bank was one of the smaller banking concerns in Toronto at that time, even with their last note issues in 1938 they didn't issue a lot of paper money. But they were a continually successful institution and merged with Bank of Toronto in 1955 to form Toronto Dominion Bank which it is still known as today. One of the more unique subjects for a banknote - how many notes do you see with beavers on them?
MEC: I still need that one and I was watching that exact one and the other the seller had 1 serial number higher but missed the close of the auction on both. I think you got an excellent example for a bargain price. The lesser quality examples sell for the same amount you paid... Very nice set Funkee! Scottish: No Beavers in my collection... yet I thought I would show this brand new local purchase procured for a very reasonable price... I am very happy to add this Educational note to my collection. It isn't graded but it speaks pretty well for itself...:kewl:
I got to keep a little mystery so.... Less than 4 figures. The whole series is so hard to come by that I had to jump on it and I dont think I could replace it for the same price. Unless I got lucky, again...
Nice beaver... Anyone? The reference? Anyone? I did steal that note didn't I? One thing it's ever hard to accuse me of, and that's overpaying for a note... Nice LT set Funkee! Once more unto the breach... and with this note I ask, who in the Snow Mizer **** is on this Brazilian One Cruzeiro note? (Come on, Snow Mizer *and* King Friday references in my posts within the same month? Consider your childhood memories ROCKED). Love all the blue detail and engraving in this note, really spectacular and affordable too, crisp CU notes with quality engraving on the cheap? Count me in... And BONUS the back is blue, the Brazilian Naval Academy...
I have found another area that I have been remiss about; replacing and upgrading note from my original collection. I spend so much time looking and researching additional pieces, I find myself way behind in this effort. So this is one upgrade I did recently. It's not perfect either, but a definite improvement. I'll try CT's "For Sale" link on the old piece for anyone interested.
Well folks, it is time to bid adieu... for now. I will be out of the country for several weeks and alas, not posting new pickups since I can't forward my mail to a ship in the Atlantic. This also means eBay will be less active as I scour for bargains, so do your part to keep it going in my stead. Hopefully when I return I will have some new notes, a couple new countries should arrive in my absence, and hopefully a rare Dallas Burke-Glass note that should have been here two weeks ago but was last updated in Rhode Island on the 11th - sigh. One last note before I go - another Costa Rica has finally arrived, another of my great favorites from this 1899 series. This time a beautiful vignette keeping with the tradition of this series of having wonderful engravings having NOTHING to do with Costa Rica. This shows a great vignette of Niagara Falls, obviously as seen from the Costa Rican side... regardless it's a dynamite design, only the 20 pesos of this series left, I have bid but alas the pricing on that one has escaped me so far.
I saw this new 100 dollar bill article on yahoo today. bill looks cool. new anti forgery thingies: Meet the New $100 Bill, the World’s Most Popular Bank Note
Yah that was suppose to come out last year or the year before but there were a whole lot of issues with the printing process
