Well currently I'm driving back from the CSNS show so you'll have to excuse my lackluster photography... But I wanted to show these off and kill some time in the car Ill get some good pics of these tomorrow.
I'm just wondering why NGC put a space between Planchet on the second coin. Plan Chet. What's your plan, Chet? Very nice pickups though, Matt.
On the bonded cap it looks like the first coin was a broadstrike, then the second coin was struck in collar and bonded to the cap. Then the pair continued striking for awhile.
Hard to say... The reeding on the first coin tells us it was struck in the collar at least partially... I would think this would have been its first strike...
That nickel on a cent is breathtaking.... in my humble opinion, it is way, way, waaaaaay better than a certain cent on a dime (in a ACG holder) that we tend to see ad nauseam.... (just saying...)
Are you putting the 79 Nickel on eBay for a $7 million, or is it $3.5 million because only 11 cent pieces command that premium?
Got ya. I was thinking that the bottom reeded piece might have been the first piece in the chamber... Struck normally and then not ejected properly. The next planchet slid in on top of it and the next strike caused both pieces to cap... Just my thought.
Holy cow, how did that thing make it out of the Mint? I'd be scared to pick it up without something to protect my fingers!
