Just bought a Guy's Coin Collection...

Yes, I was excited about that. They will replace my Whitman coin folders and books. All the Whitman books seem to leave blue crud all over the edges of the coins...the Dansco books don't.

Yes, I am. It should help update my collection, fill in some holes and leave me plenty to try to resell for profit.

Okay, they are mostly low grade coins but I will put pictures up this evening.

I can tell you right now, you made out. The first half of the IHC series isn't cheap even in Good condition.

I'm ballparking here:

1859 IHC - about $13 in good
1862 IHC - about $10 in good
1863 IHC - about $10 in good
1864 IHC - is the the Cu/Ni or Bronze, and if Bronze is it L or no L?
1873 IHC - about $20 in good
1874 IHC - about $18 in good
1879 through 1908 IHC - about $100 for all in good
1909 IHC - about $13 in good

That's around $184 just in good; any better condition and the price goes up. Add that to the silver you bought and you've already recouped your cost.

Great! Thanks for the advice. By the way, the 1864 is the Cu-Ni. Most of the IHC are Good at best condition. None of them until in the 1900's have LIBERTY readable.

Can someone give me approximate grades on the above FE & IHCs?

 

1857: AG-3 details, details, pitting
1859: G-6 details, what is that yellow stuff?
1862: G-4 details damage
1863 G-6
1864 G-6

 

FE: FR2/AG3
IHC: range from AG3-G6 environmental damage

Personally, I think you didn't do well, at all. Why was shipping $30, anyway? You really should stop buying off CL. This is the second time that you got a less than fair result that you posted about.

Edit: If those coins are representative of the coins in the "collection," I have a strong feeling you just purchased someone's change drawer collection.

 

Unless there are hidden gems, I would state you overpaid. You paid real money for bulk silver and what is likely to be low grade common coinage.
