Below are photos of a 1932D & S Washington Quarter. Real or Fake...and if real, approximate grade please? Thank you!

I'm not experienced enough to give you a straight answer. But I'm guessing those are authentic, simply because the coins are low grade and have been so harshly cleaned.

Also I was once told by a dealer who was an expert: "If the mint-mark is a mis-shapen blob, that's been worn to the point that you can barely make it out on a low grade 32 Washington quarter, it's probably an authentic D or S mintmark." The mintmarks you've displayed in the photos fit the bill imo.

Again though, I will defer a true opinion until the experts on this forum weigh in.

I can't say anything as to the authenticity of the quarter, but I will take a shot on the grade, I'll say Good Details.

Yep. I agree that this is true, and that they are very likely real.

I agree with Race as well. The phrase as I heard it was "if it looks good it isn't, if it looks bad it is good". Those years had blob of a mintmark, and a depression where the mintmark was punched.

My guess on the grade is VG-8 details due to harsh cleaning.

Guys keep in mind these quarters are really low mintage, and are key dates!

These look good. It's only when the protected area around the mint mark is a lighter color should you worry. This typically points to an added mint mark. I have several examples of this date and one fake I bought knowing so, just to have a reference.

I have a 1913-S Type II Nickel that's been acid-bathed I'll sell ya if you think harshly cleaned coins in bad condition are anywhere near as valuable as un-cleaned. It goes for 250 in G4 and I'd be lucky to get 10 bucks for it.

@ the OP: They look good to me, but I'm certainly not an expert on Washingtons. I don't see anything that would indicate them being either altered or added.

They are both valued at the $100 to $125 each even in that condition, I bought a collection late last year with almost the same looking washingtons. When I got rid of the 32 D and S that what they brought.

Man, you did well then. I agree if they were simply G-VG they should bring that, but with harsh cleaning marks? I do not see that kind of value myself.

I've had these quarters for a while but I just thought that I'd get some opinions on them. I bought both of the quarters (32D and 32S) for $150 total. (Actually, I traded $150 worth of 40% halves for them). Thanks for all the comments.

Are they harshly cleaned or harshly worn, I still think you can get close to $100 for them. They are the key dates in the series and you always have a market for a low cost key date.

I think that is a fair trade then sir. Hopefully you have a Washington set and enjoy them. :)

I sold a 1932 D in much better shape on eBay recently and only got 1 bid for $50. This seems to be one coin that sells for below the book value judging from completed eBay auctions. Here's the one I sold.
