http://www.coinworld.com/articles/viewarticle/mint-to-introduce-new-american-eagle-finish This could turn out to be pretty cool!
Yeah ya' got that right! It seems like the US Mint is getting a bit smarter in their marketing strategies but only when it comes to their ASE's. I'm hoping for a high relief issue. With that said, I think I'll stay away from their two-coin ASE sets for awhile especially if the Mint is gonna sell them for a 30 day window like they did with the 2012 reverse proof set. I'm still getting over that one!!
Yeah I won't buy from the Mint. I'll wait till the hype goes down and then grab a couple 70's already graded. No point in having a safe full of cardboard. I do believe that if you play it right, they are always a solid investment. Example, I bought 10 2012 W Burnished PCGS MS-70 First Strikes for $78 each when they were plentiful. Which was only $28 over what they sold from the mint for. I knew at that at $29 an ounce that no one with any sense would buy them at $61 ungraded so therefore low pop. Now they are going for $200 +/- each. Gimmick or not, a decent profit like that means more time salmon fishing!!! I'm building 2 sets for my retirement fund, 20 years to go, so keep em coming I say!
While I will purchase at least one of these for my Dansco, I must admit that I'm feeling like a pig being led to slaughter with all this gimmicky carp the US Mint is offering lately. My buying power is a bit limited from a couple of years ago and selectivity is now the name of the game.
I'm a sucker no more for the mint's 40.6mm silver Petri dish of milk spots. You all have fun watching them grow!
i actually didnt know she was draped in a flag until i saw this coin (i just started collecting SAE this year), i personally love this new look, the reverse proof is my favorite but this one is nice. i would like to see some proof versions with that finish as well a three finish coin would be cool(i know they say this is a three finish coin but both the frosted finishes look the same, what i mean by three finish is having a mirros, frosted and one inbetween). i think the current offering wash out the detail on the lady and eagle canada does 3 or more finishes on some coins and they look great. here is the 3 finish coin from canada i was talking about, the leaves are mirrored and two different frosted shades. maybe the enhanced SAE will look like this but in all the photos the two frosted sections look the same
I don't think you can please SAE collectors. They're like a snooty girlfriend. If the mint did nothing, they'd complain about that.
I'm not an SAE collector, but I want to be. The mint could put a cat turd on the obverse and I'd buy one if they could SOLVE THE MILK SPOT PROBLEM!
Milk spots would be ok to deal with if the "Graders" would recognize them as a flaw, especially on a 70 coin, that's just bulldookie.....as opposed to catdookie!!!
