I think the average age for collectors is rising and that coin collecting is a dieing hobby.

There's actually more young people on CT that I ever imagined when I first joined. I had similar dire expectations at first, but I am reasonably confident in the future of the hobby now that I look around.

I have to disagree. I see many young numismatist getting involved. Just go to a large coin convention and actually look and see how many kids are there. Our local Indiana state show has a junior auction and last year they had over 100 participants.

    And, sadly, Canada too :(

Maybe Latin needs to be taught again...

I strongly agree with this statement.

I, a YN, went to a coin show this past weekend where they held an auction for juniors (free cash to bid) and a cheap table for junior collectors...

    I saw ~50 YN's aged between 4 and 8 (my estimate)

Numismatics is not a dying hobby, IMHO.

I think you are trolling but I'll bite anyway.

    A few relevant excerpts...

Coin collecting may have existed in ancient times. Caesar Augustus gave "coins of every device, including old pieces of the kings and foreign money" as Saturnalia gifts.
Petrarch, who wrote in a letter that he was often approached by vinediggers with old coins asking him to buy or to identify the ruler, is credited as the first Renaissance collector.

Petrarch presented a collection of Roman coins to Emperor Charles IV in 1355.

The first book on coins was De Asse et Partibus (1514) by Guillaume Budé.

I am the biggest example that Young Numismatics are still enduring the passion more than ever.

This is a great example of the fact that, as NorthKorea stated,

It is YN's like Pi man and me that are great examples of the passion for Numismatics continuing with the youth of today.

First I thought "dieing" was being used as a pun. But, sadly, it's just bad spelling.

Try buying a Bust half for what they cost 5 years ago , or even last year . I think Numismatics attracts the brightest young minds and is doing quite well . Look at the ANA YN programs and seminars . They're usually fully booked .

You can add one young guy to the list. I gave my gf's 5 y/o nephew a big US quarters state map today with a few coins. He seemed pretty excited about it. Hopefully this kick starts him into the hobby.

you would be suprised by the large amount of collectors who start when there young. And 25 is not much of a late start.
