Some of these coins , and others more are listed here : http://giladzuckerman.webs.com/mercuguinness.html#ITALY
I also like Italy coins XVIII is directly under the 1940 date. The first person to describe the XVIII gets bragging rights at CT. :smile
Yep. :thumb: These two threads depict some of the coins that got me hooked on Italy coins. http://www.cointalk.com/t206704/ http://www.cointalk.com/t207551/
I checked it out & I like them all. My favorite is the 1927-R 5 Lire coin with the eagle perched on the faces. The other one I like is the 500 Lire. The date is on the edge so don't know the date of the 500 Lire.
Thanks. I think the 500 Lire is 1966. I have gotten some more since I posted those. 20th century Italy is one of the sets I've been working on lately.
The first year of the Fascist era begins the day after the Marcia su Roma, October 29, 1922 and closes on October 28, 1923. So, the year XVIII (18) is from October 29, 1939, to October 28, 1940. The requirement to add, in Roman numerals, the year of the Fascist era alongside that of the Christian era came into force from October 29, 1927. On coins appear in 1936, with the so called Serie Impero (5, 10 and 50 cents of this thread are Serie Impero coins) issued to celebrate the conquest of Ethiopia and the birth of Italian Empire. They are the last coins of the Italian Kingdom, their mintage stops in 1943. petronius :smile
