"Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" is a 1971 film about Charlie, a boy who wins a trip to a magical candy factory Charlie is looking into a gutter He spots a coin, which he uses to buy a candy bar. The coin is the reverse of a Maria Theresa Thaler, a popular silver dollar sized coin struck off and on since 1780. Maria Theresa Thaler This is the first time that I have seen a Maria Theresa Thaler in a movie.
I've always wondered what that coin was, I figured it was supposed to take place in the US, although I'm not sure it was filmed here. So I figured it may have been foreign.
willieboyd2 => that's another winner!! Bogart Indiana Jones ... and now Willy Wonka I grew-up watching the original with Gene Wilder ... yah, I watched the remake with Johnny Depp and I admit that it was okay, but it just wasn't the same as the original (the original must have been too engrained in my brain?!!) => anyway => I used to call my elementary school friend "Augustus Gloop" ......... thanks for the flashback!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdSORiSaRW8
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" was remade by Tim Burton in 2005 as "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. In this version, Charlie again gets a silver coin, not the same one as in "Willy Wonka", buys a Wonka candy bar which turns out to be an ordinary one. He later finds a currency note, buys another candy bar, which has the Golden Ticket. Charlie's grandfather gives him a coin. The coin Charlie finds a bill I am working on identifying the coin in this film.
i'd still rather have the coin....nice lookin' dollar. if i got the golden ticket and made in, i'd just get turned into a blueberry or something anyway.
