Here's a new Half Cent that I'm especially proud of. God I love these! 1807 Draped Bust C-1 Weakly struck reverse motto with the large fraction bar over the small bar
Well, I haven't posted in this thread in quite a while, so I'll post my recent acquisitions in the next couple of posts. My one and only currency purchase and my first full proof set. (sniped off ebay)
Got these both in the mail over the past week. If I had to guess I'd say the Canadian dime is AT but I think it looks good and it's 50% silver so it's alright with me. I took a gamble on eBay with the Roosie and I think I made out ok as far as color goes. Here's the auction link if anyone feels like looking at the sellers photos. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230750808120?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 Also added a couple more raw Frankies to my collection. I'm too tired right now to save and upload the pics to here, so here are the links to the auctions. I'll post my own pics of course once I have the coins in hand. Based on the seller's pics I'm 50/50 on this proof whether the toning is natural or not. But for $15, NT or AT, that's not bad for a proof Franklin. I thought it was funny how the seller felt the need to mention how strong the bell lines are on the coin. It's a proof, they're supposed to be sharp! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Proof-Franklin-Half-Dollar-Nicely-Toned-w-Extremely-Sharp-Bell-Lines-NR-/360636072175?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=pGc2nPjumHfsqNAVptqQHC0t5Ik%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc This one went for a bit more than I was hoping but if the toning ends up looking anything like I think it may, then the price will be well worth it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1957-D-SILVER-FRANKLIN-HALF-DOLLAR-MONSTER-RAINBOW-TONING-FULL-BELL-LINES-/200914540433?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=pGc2nPjumHfsqNAVptqQHC0t5Ik%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
They are "fantasy" pieces issued by the Full Step Nickel Club in 2002 to commemorate the original design submitted by Felix Schlag for the Jefferson Nickel. The original reverse design was not liked, and so Schlag (with the suggestions of the committee who reviewed the design) provided at least one additional design which was accepted as the Jefferson Nickel reverse that we all know well today. The dies for these pieces were prepared by Ron Landis of the Gallery Mint. He is a brilliant artist, and is especially well known for his amazing Hobo Nickel art. The fantasy pieces were issued in two finishes, MATTE and PROOF, as described on the labels -- and each finish was struck in a mintage of only 1,938 (to commemorate the original year of issue of the first Jefferson Nickel). They were originally issued for $38 for the MATTE piece and $42 for the PROOF piece (including shipping) -- $80 for the pair. All pieces were individually numbered and encapsulated by SEGS. You will note that my pair I posted is serial number #927. You can ind a lot more detail at this link.
i have never seen these before? what are they and where did you get them? link me to it if possible, i want to check them out
Read my post just before yours. I found my pair on eBay. They come up for sell on occasion, but you have to be patient. When they were originally issued many sets went into long-time collectors sets, and the turn-over is pretty low. All I can say is be patient and don't overpay for them. I gave $100 for my set, which with inflation is about the same as their issue price. I have seen some listed at ridiculous prices, so be careful. Even for fantasy pieces, they are stunning to look at in hand. The original Art Deco font is also curious, although that didn't make it into the final design either. Good luck!
Seller's from UK + there Photos 1854 4 pence. Not a lot of Silver but a hard coin to find not a cull.
The second of two MPL's picked up this week. This one replaces the gorgeous 1912 that went back home to WingedLiberty.
My girls wanted to start a buffalo nickel album, you can see their excited lol. We picked up a bunch of random dates stopping at the local coin shop and then I actually found two very nicely toned buffs for a $1 each at a hole in the wall pawn shop I recently found while we were out and about.
