Interesing thread idea, what do you collect? Im one of those guys who collects anything, and never sells. Started with folders, and now I have a bit of everything. Dollars, halfs, us coinage, currency, foriegn and american. Even have (2) from 235-300AD. Im a fan of anything I "feel" as a newbie is a good deal. So, who collects what, post your favorite coins you own. Let us know what excites you.............................when it comes to currency/money.
I collect coins. Ok ok... Lincoln Cents Die varieties/mint errors Old US coins from the early 1800s (various)
I'm willing to collect any coin that catches my eye. However, I am mostly a silver guy and have few copper coins. I collect anything old because I love the history but have plenty of modern commems, quarters, halves and dollars. Love ASE's and Canadian Bullion. Of course have a nice smaller selection of Morgan's but my favorite series would have to be Walkers. I recently started getting into barber quarters as well and want to start collecting more Ben's. I am pretty much all over the place.
I'm actively working on a set of Franklins and I was working on a set of Peace dollars but they've taken a backseat for now - my last LCS had the quality I wanted for the price I wanted and eBay, etc. just wants too much. I collect challenge coins because they tell a pretty cool story about my career. Also started collecting Air Force mess tokens. They're not fancy but they speak to me. I have a few modern commemoratives, I get the ones that mean something to me. My most recent purchase was the Korean War commemorative. And probably like the rest of us I have odds and ends that I thought were cool - a small collection of ancients, random world coins, and some various old US coins. Oh, I also collect Icelandic coins. Here's my most favorite that I have with me:
I was a type and early commemorative collector . But now it's Bust halves and CWTs , though I will buy anything that catches my eye .
I collect world coins. "coins with insects" "coins with hands" "coins with certain stars" "coins with small coins as the design on coins" some toned U.S. and world coins. and a huge world MISC. coin section. my favorite country to collect right now is Belgium. I do like some U.S. coins but prefer the huge variety of world coins so much more. do NOT laugh.. I also collect cat figurines/sculptures.
I collect something special coins or paper money that I own right now.. :hail: :thumb: Have a Great Weekends to ALL!
Great thread! At the moment I'm working on a Type Set Mercury Dimes Washington Quarters lately I've been dabbling in ASE's and want to do a Early Commem set but that's probably not going to happen. We can't all be Eliasburg's I guess.
I collect coins, rocks, guns, memories, etc. The coin highlights include errors, V-nickels, US type coins, World Type coins, some US series by date & mm, and ancients. If you search "What do you collect" at CT you will find 4 pages of interesting threads.
I mainly collect Franklin halves. I also like Jefferson nickels and have started pick up some Washington quarters(mainly toned). Here are a few of my favorites
Here is one of my favorites. The photo was taken before I had a clue about coin photography. (I didn't even have a ticket on the clue bus). It is really pretty in-hand.
Newb question, but how do coins get that toned? Also where you you guys find them? Circulation or shops
You can search-out many interesting threads at CoinTalk. Search for words like AT, NT, artificially toned, Naturally toned, Questionably toned, etc. Also, there is a book called "Coin Chemistry" that is a good read. Copper is very reactive Silver is reactive Gold is not very reactive All coins begin toning as soon as they leave the coin press. Basically every coin has its own toning story. The coin I posted was affected by the atmosphere in a wet basement with a dirty furnace for many years. The reverse is bright white.
While my collection interests have changed over the years, I collect anything old. I try to not have anything before the year 1960, save for a few mint sets, errors, and what not. As far as coin collecting as a whole: US Coins World Coins Medals Error Coins Civil War Tokens Tokens in General
