Huh? Unless yours is some kind of error piece, that is a very common coin. For the 10 Pf denomination, and a few others, "1950" was a frozen date which was used for 16 years. Mintage with D/Munich mintmark: 447,542,000. How many "survived" is not known, but this is not that rare ... Christian
According to this article there's only 393,209 minted, here's the link http://world-coins-dealer.ecrater.com/p/2620980/west-germany-1950d-10-pfennig-coin
The dealer wants almost $40 for that piece? As in, US dollars?? Seems he forgot the decimal point right after the dollar sign. The figure I mentioned is from the Jaeger catalog (2011); here is a more recent one from NGC/Krause: http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...gory=38780&worldcoinid=109609&FromSearch=true (Hope the direct link works.) Edit: Now I understand where that mistake may have originated. MünzenRevue, a German coin magazine with catalog listings, says "393,21" regarding the 1950 D mintage, in this month's issue. The decimal comma is used where you would use a decimal point, but more importantly, that is the mintage in millions. So "393,21" translates to about 393 million pieces ... Christian
First, I never used the word " Rare " only the mintage, but here's a site they use the word " Rare " http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Germany-Federal-Republic-10-Pfennig-1950-/102034293 make sure you read the blog, before you post, or you could use the wrong words for the post your reading, no hard feelings here :loud: o-ya, the mintage is in the millions
Your right on the mintage, that's for sure, the seller site is misleading on the mintage, that's for sure ! Thanks for the info encil:
You may already know this but ... the "1957" is the authorization date for that issue, and the "60" (short for 1960) is the issue/production date. By the way, that Asian piece in #2888 is a 10 yen coin from Japan. Don't know about the date though. The version with the milled edge (and I think yours has one) was made from 1951 until 1958; later issues have a smooth edge. Christian
I seem to be getting a few crowns recently although I'm happiest with the college arms one as I really like these coins !
