Older Counterfeit 1795 Half Dime

    I believe this is an example of the counterfeit 1795 half dime first identified by INS back in the mid 70's.

    Pretty easy to tell with the surface and how grainy it is. But that cud certainly looks intriguing.

    Yes, but it could easily fool a beginner. Is it legal to own without a COPY stamp on it? Not trying to stir things up but just curious.

    Yes, just illegal to try and pass it off as real.

    BTW, is it minted out of silver, or another metal?

    Nice piece...very rare for a fake.
     
  13. If isnt too exspensive id like to own it for a pocketpiece.
    Would be a great conversation coin to show new collectors.
    I just think its neat in many ways and its a part of older history.

    If a real counterfeiter was trying to get away with highway robbery, I'm sure they would of used silver. Although I'm sure crappy old pot metal fakes exist as well.
