HELP!! Original 1944 penny roll- TO OPEN OR NOT??

So I picked up this roll over the weekend and am absolutely torn as to whether or not I should open it!!! I don't know if being in the original roll gives it some sort of "premium" to the value as I normally only deal with individual coins. The fact that there could possibly be a steel penny in there intrigues me even more, highly unlikely, but that's part of the fun of the hobby. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A '44 Steelie? Probably not, but what about the possibility of some high grade MS specimens? Probably not, as well! I wonder who put the white band around it? Could it have been FDR, himself?

In any case, it's still pretty cool just to think about the possibilities.

Run a magnet over it like all the previous owners did.

To the best of my knowledge there has only been one owner, at least for the last few decades. A family friend owns an antique store and these were brought in by the son of a man who recently passed away. My friend will call me anytime he gets coins in the store to let me have first dibs on anything nice.

You may not open it today, you may not open it tomorrow... but at some point in the future, you know you WILL open it. Might as well save yourself the tormented sleepless nights and open it today! You know you want to!! :)

I would tear it open and put it in a tube. As long as you are not going to sell it, why not enjoy it?

This post kind of disappointed me. Somehow, I was expecting a Seuss-like post.

Put it (as is) in a nickel tube and forget about it...the packaging has value.

I have a sealed Mint box of eighty (80) 1962 Mint sets. As much as I would love to open it, I also want to pass it along in the family in its unopened, unsearched packaging.

Do not open them in car...
Do not put them in a jar...
When you unwrap them to take a look...
Be absolutely sure you have this year's Red Book!

if it is the original packaging and all are then BU, them being in the roll adds tremendous value versus ones just out of a roll, if ever interested in selling, mentioning them all being in the original roll still would make all the difference

Regardless of whom you pass them on to they will open them and they will have stolen the enjoyment you would have experienced.
you paid for it enjoy it.....

Carefully unroll the end and take a look at all the coins like the last owner probably did, as did the owner before that... then place back in roll and carefully re-roll the end.

So upon further inspection it did look as if somebody had VERY carefully opened the roll before. So I figured what the heck. Sorry my phone takes terrible pictures, but I'd rather spend money on coins than a fancy phone or camera!!

Those look really nice! Top row - 3rd from the left.......is that a small, straight clip between 12 & 1 o'clock?
