Oooops, I'm sorry Bing => yah, that totally sucks when a coin-deal turns sour, and/or when a fake "pops-up" ...

    I hope everything turns-out okay ...

Oh, but more importantly => I love ya man, and I hope that you and Missus-Bing have a great weekend!!!

Oh man, that sucks. Makes me wonder once again if there are any fakes in my collection. I'm pretty certain not, but the thought still lingers in the back of my mind. Glad yours got spotted in time and hope that the issue gets resolved.

Pretty sophisticated fake, at least from the looks. Not common enough to be seeing die matches, and it appears there were flan variations to confuse things. (...Perhaps why it was mis-attributed by the seller in the first place??) Always sorry to see. Glad you caught it quickly, though.

Thanks Curtis. The problem in this whole scenario was that I was lazy. I should have compared it beforehand, but, in my defense, I have purchased from this seller in the past with good results. This episode should teach me, but, I'm sure I will get lazy again in the future when the memory of this fades. I still haven't heard back from the seller, but it is the weekend, so I will give him through Monday before sending another email.

It's just like I say about fist fights, "If you always win, you must be avoiding anyone who might be able to give you a real challenge." With fakes, if you've never found one in your collection, you weren't looking hard enough! Sooner or later it happens to everyone, I'm sure. You checked and discovered it fast. That's what matters.

Oh, this certainly would not have been my first. I made some real doosies when I first started buying on line. I'm from West Virginia. We not only have one leg shorter than the other, we have hard heads (and great moonshine).

"So far" I've only discovered one fake in my collection ...

David Sear actually discovered it (I sent him a bunch of my coins to authenticate and he discovered that one of 'em was a fake ... luckily I had purchased it from my favourite dealer, who was as surprised as I was with Sear's discovery!!) ... the whole story ended well, for I was quickly reimbursed for the coin, plus my dealer was getting a bit too cocky, ya know what I mean?

;) (just kidding dude ... you're the King o' dealers!!)

Just a quick update. The seller has issued a full and complete refund and has apologized profusely, even offering me a discount on my next purchase. He said he has contacted the auction house where he bought the coin and is awaiting a reply from them. Thanks for the help with this coin and especially for IDing it as a Lipanoff.

No I did not. How did you find this? Obviously you are better at navigating around. I'd like to know.

I've searched "Philip" in ebay's completed listings, found it quite easily. Look at his first feedback, the object ;)
