I believe this is an example of the counterfeit 1795 half dime first identified by INS back in the mid 70's.
Yes, but it could easily fool a beginner. Is it legal to own without a COPY stamp on it? Not trying to stir things up but just curious.
If isnt too exspensive id like to own it for a pocketpiece. Would be a great conversation coin to show new collectors. I just think its neat in many ways and its a part of older history.
If a real counterfeiter was trying to get away with highway robbery, I'm sure they would of used silver. Although I'm sure crappy old pot metal fakes exist as well.
