Most of you know that I have been collecting for 75 years and found the vast majority of my early coins in circulation. I very rarely find one that I can upgrade. Today I found a very nice high AU or low MS 1956 D Jefferson. I checked my collection album that I have had forever. Here is the coin that was in my album as the best I found as a young collector. And, also the one I found today. Very sure that this is an upgrade that I have been waiting on for 50 plus years.
Nice find. I’m putting some stuff like this back into circulation. Hoping others will find and enjoy.
Great idea. I can't make myself buy a coin like this, even though it may be well within my budget. I too am seeding the wild stock hoping to get new collectors interested. Thanks for your interest in the hobby.
I would definitely do the upgrade, that is a nice looking '56. Good luck with your decision thanks for sharing.
I just inherited thousands of coins from grandparents and parents. I started at ZERO, so I have no issue sending nickels worth 10 cents off to another home. I’m keeping a couple of each date and MM. I’ve also spent three $1 silver certificates that were beyond used up. It’s kinda fun.
(by the pics) That's a good lookin' Jeff Inspector........nice upgrade. Keep the forlorn one though. Gotta remember where ya came from........
Unfortunately nickels aren't on everyone hot list....to begin with... and circulated specimens theres no market for. I've turned in many rolls of 40,50,and 60 's nickels back into circulation.
When I come across something like that, I can't help but wonder, "What in the world has this coin been doing for the last 66 years!" I mean... has it just been sitting in the original coin roll the whole time? And somebody decided to spend them all the sudden?
They don't go to upgrade my collection unless I find them in the wild. Rolls from the bank are wild. Now, it depends upon the definition of "market". My market is out there where I find them, and I am guessing that there are many other collectors when the same objective. Thanks for the feedback.
There are some who seed the wild we nice coins. @Paddy54 is one of them. I appreciate him for that. I also put nice coins back in circulation. I'm guessing that someone just put this out there recently.
Him? He's a crazy Irishman from Balto.......we haven't spoken since the pandemic. Seems he has issues with what I say but it's alright for him to spout forth.
