If I purchase slabbed...which I seldom do...I bust many out as I have other display methods I prefer. Books, capital holders, airtights, etc. Depends on what I am doing with a specific collection of coins. I have a few slabbed...as that is how I kept them...during the "Satin" finish years of US mint sets, I would purchase slabbed business strike coins. I left them slabbed as my dansco I was using for the primary collection did not have space for both Satin, and Business strike coins.
1822 Capped Bust Half Dollar (PCGS XF45). Just bought this one. PCGS Price Guide at XF45 is $315, and I paid $595 (about a 1.88x toning premium). I didn't mind paying up at all, as I LOVE the attractive target toning and also got a kick out of the date (those ornate scroll-y 2's are cool). (It is interesting to note that at AU50, the PCGS Price Guide jumps to $525 ... upgrade potential? as Rick S. wrote below.) The seller sent me this description (I slightly edited): "Obverse is AU all the way -- so it gives this a great look in the holder. I have the coin in my hand now and as I rotate it the obverse shows some original luster, which makes the toning look better in hand. Front side has a more of a orange-gold to green target, while the reverse is more of an orange-gold to blue-green."

I know this going to sound dumb is the same size a the real round? or big 2oz as a recall would be a bit heavy/ large that a real 7.62-51mm. I never had time to weight 1 just shot them @ time the barrel turn red. But still a nice desk top paper weight :thumb:
Beautiful , I definitely think you got a heck of a deal . Even without the color , The color is all bonus . Great Busty .
I went to the Westminster Md coin show today and picked up this 1877 Trade Dollar. I must say it looks better in hand as it still has alot of luster in the main fields and a tad bit of rainbow tone under the right lighting. I may have to re shoot it durring the mid day hours to obtain its true luster and colors. Just one more scratch off the 7070 list. OH BTW Just a shout out to my old Buddy Eugene{ AKA Siberia-man} A Very Happy Birthday!:bdaycake: And Many Many More My Friend!
Another pick up at the show was this 1828 Large Cent "Narrow Date" I was looking for both varieties of this series in a tad bit better condition ...however price and wanting to add to my 1828 type set I made the purchase.
Paddy a real beauty of a type2/2 . Great pick up , man I love Trade dollars . And Ditto to Eugene , Happy Birthday Buddy , "Sto Lat" .
Sweet Trade Dollar Pickup Paddy. I've yet to add an example to my collection, but yours looks fetching indeed.....
Thanks Ken, And it's my first also! I have wanted one for awhile now for my 7070 but price and other needs always seemed to stop me from obtaining one...well this one spoke to me and the price was right. However the dealer gave me a $40 discount on his orginal price I knew it was pay dirt.
