Hey friends, If you had a few high end coins and you wanted to sell them with one of the auction houses which one would you choose and why? Heritage? TeleTrade? Or would you simply go with what you know, Ebay? Actually I sent some coins to TeleTrade around a year ago and they sent my coins back to me. No reason, they simply repackaged them and sent them back to me. I never asked them why, guess I should have. The only thing I don't like about their form (TeleTrade) is they ask you how much the coins are worth. Are you supposed to give them the retail value, selling to an idiot value or selling wholesale to a coin shop value? Anyways, with TT I entered the value that I wanted. Anyone??
If they are truly high end then heritage no question. E Bay and heritage are like McDonald's and Gramercy Tavern.
Honestly, I do not what auction house should I choose. For, selling my coins collection is the least thing I can do.
I would assume, if we're talking about high demand (everyone who can afford it wants one), extremely low supply (say ten or less in circulation) and a value in excess of $50,000, that you'd go with Stack's Bowers. If you're talking run of the mill ($5,000-$20,000) stuff, probably Heritage. If you just want to get rid of something, eBay.
The best solution would be to tailor the auction houses to your collection. For instance I would consign my British/Scottish to Spink New York, my Russian stuff to StacksBowers, and my American stuff to Heritage. The lesser priced stuff would go to Teletrade. Paper money would go to Lyn Knight.
I wonder which auction house is the best for selling tokens or medals? I have some gold but nothing worth anything special so I'll likely just place those on ebay. I also have one of these Japanese gold coins. I think I'll just have to break down and send a couple items to PCGS and then slap them on feebay. Grrrrrrr!!
I've never consigned to any of them, but I suspect that the reason TT sent your coins back was that your value estimates were probably too high. It's not uncommon for many collectors (even me) to think that their coins are worth more than they realistically are. The last thing any auction house wants is to have "bad press" when the coins don't sell. Chris
My Best answer is eBay ! World to see your high end ( coin collections) what you call it! Or either make your own websites or published it on you tube too...La ~ La~ La~. or SELL it here in Coin Talk!:hail:
